but when i went to check-out online the site wouldn’t calculate the shipping until i gave my credit card info and most times after that it’s to late to cancel the order. I will only deal with companies that show all costs up-front. Got burned once and that’s enough. They lost a $400 order and any repeat sales.
I just saw one at my LHS. Really nice but wrong engine for my memory. The ones I road on were pulled by F-7s I believe. Maybe later. I try to buy from LHS when they have what I want.
My mistake… It was a Digitrax Zephyr DCC starter set.
The store emailed me back right away last night, I didn’t read it right away because it got caught in my spam filter. They cleared up the shipping cost question and I’ll probably go with them.
I received my Zephyr last night from Charleston Digital Trains, sooner then expected. After emailing back and forth with the owner, Mike, it was decided that there must be a glitch in his web site, or I was doing something wrong. It was obvious that the site was set-up to calculate the shipping as you go but just wasn’t working. He’s having his IT guy look at it. Mike sent the order out with out collecting the shipping, He’ll bill me separately later, but no more then $10, which is more then fair.
So all in all Great service Great price (Zephyr, 4 decoders & PS-REV for < $300) I’ll go back to CDT for more stuff.
Congrats Pat, and kudos to Charleston Digital Trains. I’m always amazed at the polarity of vendors in this hobby. So many of them are so good and so service oriented, and the ones that aren’t seem to be really bad…
not only is that great service i’d be surprised if he didn’t lose money on the shipping charge . very nice to see someone go above and beyond to satisfy a customer
Good for you! The Zephyr is a great product and i am sure you will have years of fun with it. The neat thing is how easy it is to build upon this system. I was able to pick up an Empire Builder set cheap on E-bay so now my Zephyr is the command station running a booster and a DT400 throttle. I also added the IR wireless, but in all honesty wish I had sprung for the radio. I will probably upgrade this later in the year. From what I can tell I can send my throttle off and get it converted.
