I broke down.

Many of you know I’m an HO guy, but I saw these for a decent price and couldn’t resist.

I’m so weak.[:D]

Pert near perfect shape lookin’ too!

Iffen I’da seen 'em at a decent price, I mighta just laid down my $20 too…

Looks like a neat set; how does “old sparkey” run?

It doesn’t run yet, but the wheels and gears are all in excellent shape. Once I get it going, I suspect it’ll be smooth and powerful.

Darth.

I saw the post and got scared for a second. I thought you broke down and bought something RTR!!! I’m breathing again. Thanks for scaring me.

Pete

The cars are new - M.T.H. But the old AF locomotive is a find indeed.

Trains like that never had an appeal for me.

If those are what MTH 3 rail cars look like, then the question I ask is, why even bother?

Or am I missing something?[*-)]

locoi1sa, don’t worry. I’m still crazy about kits and repowers and all that other (literal) junk that takes some extra effort. I’ve got some good stuff coming up right now (right now meaning "when I finish it in a couple months…or years…).[:D]

gmcrail, yeah, the cars are MTH. I looked at getting original American Flyer cars, some of which were cheaper, but I’m a little burned out on fully restoring every last piece in a set (just finished a small Lionel passenger train recently), so I decided on these instead after a lot of debating with myself.

riogrande5761, I still like HO scale best, but I’ve always liked these old style toy trains too. Part of it is because of my grandpa’s old American Flyer and Marx trains, another part is because it looks great to me when it’s under a Christmas tree, and I think the last part is because I like shiny stuff.[:)]

Lake, these cars are meant to be exact reproductions of the classic American Flyer trains of the 20’s and 30’s, and are not at all representative of MTH’s scale models. Although it’s unlikely I’ll be getting another MTH product besides these, many of the scale models (even the 3-railers) are right up there with some of the best.

Darth!

I still have my older brothers’ 1950’s Marx stuff, and while I haven’t run it in years it still brings a smile to my face every time I come across it in the garage. Its so covered in dust now that I think I might have to put it through the dishwasher - not![swg][(-D]

Besides, its your railroad…!!!

I look forward to seeing your new projects.
