I can move Less then Carload on Boxcars from Teamtracks for the Amish...But I have to use a agent.

Lorenzo International agreed to quote a rate from there warehouse siding for the Amish for Freight Of All Kinds but said that it was against Federal Law to move “Household Goods” by train or even Common Carrier trucking companys such as JB Hunt. The Reason for this is that back in 1982 the Household Goods movers such as Mayflower(Say were not they owned by NS?) and United Van Lines put a rider into ICC law saying that only certified moving companys can move Household Goods. However Mayflower can put one of there trailers on a flatcar or load there freight into a Boxcar. Lorenzo agreed to be the IMC and railroads work thru IMCs for the most part on low volume moves. Under ICC Sunset rules signed by Bill Clinton the General Public has to call a Intermodal Marketing Company to move by rail be it Piggyback or Boxcar. The Railroad will only extend credit to a IMC or a another large shpper doing in Excess of 1,000,000 a year in freight billing.

Oh no!
Really?
Then I guess my collection of bottle caps can’t be shipped by boxcar?

No, but they will take the beer cans.

How about my old pop top chain…its about a half mile long now?
Do I have to get one of the cars with the shackles?
Ed

Who gives a car or less than a carload?

“Third boxcar, midnight train, destination Bangor Maine”

-the late great Roger Miller

North American Van Lines, not Mayflower, was owned by NS. NS used NAVL’s experience in trucking to help in the establishment and marketing of Triple Crown Services. Many of Triple Crown’s executives came from North American.
The requirement of an intermediate agent does not look out of line to me. Customs Law and Regulations also require the use of a customs broker if the value of the goods involved is above a certain amount.

Bottle Caps? Crown Cork and Seal moves them by rail all the time out of Winchester VA

Great, so one problem is solved.!
Now, about those tennis balls…

I’m about to go to a city hall meeting; I will have a whole lot of “fertilizer” needing to be shipped…

You would need a lot of balls for that.[:D]

I wonder if the railroads will move a boxcar half full of shackled prisoners without an agent?

How do I find the posts about the shackles? It seems to be an inside joke that I just don’t get? Thanks

Bet they require you to have a full boxcar of half shackled prisoners instead!

Now, if we had open access, I could use a open top gondola and a big roll of duct tape….

Ed

Try fly paper first…might end up with amusing results.

Do they make troll paper?
If so, I think we need a big, big roll…
Ed

Run a search for “The Death trains are coming! Boxcars with shackles…” and see what you get…

I have it from an inside source that the boxcar order was cancelled the moment GWB was re-elected.

Or you could just go here… http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?page=1&TOPIC_ID=20437

Only this guy smokes a crack pipe instead of a stogie.

TheAntiGates: Okie-dokie that was weird. It kind of makes me think of a bumper sticker -“Just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not after me.”

Were you able to hunt down the original story at Indy media? If not I can give you a link to a web page archive service, that has over 40 billion archived web pages available to access…

As far as the original story goes, I thought it was funny, but some here determined to be aggravated by it, so the referance to it has become a metaphor for “nutjob”…
