i have a track plan (sorry, no pics)...

my layout surface is 4 feet by 8 feet. my plan is having some 18 (or 15 if it fits) inch radius curves with a rulers width of room (or an inch) away form the edge of my layout. this will allow maximum track (and everything else) laying possibilities yet still having a continous running capability. one corner will be saved for a bit of scenery and everything else is undecided. all of my track will be Atlas code 100 with remote turnouts and maybe a small stand for the transformer (power pack) and switches for track and lighting.

does it sound good?

This is pretty simplistic and will get you so you can run laps, but not much more. A good place to start would be to read my beginner’s guide. You can get to it with the link in my signature. It takes about 10 minutes to read.

It is hard to visualize from the description given, but I think you are just talking about a loop around the edge of the space. There are tons of 4x8 plans out there utilizing 18" radius curves, many very very interesting ones. No need to resort to 15". In fact a 9" straight can be used on the narrow side of the board and 18" radius curves will still fit.

I guess you wont be getting that Big Alco you were talking about in another thread. They require atleast 22" radaii with long couplers.

oh drat! maybe i should consider that. i already have 22" radius but i wanted to utilitize the maximum amount of space within the loop so i could have constant running and som switching. i also didn’t get some questions answered from the other thread about the C630. once i know how much it will cost and what tools i will need AND if there is any modfications needed, then maybe i will rethink the plan with getting as much space as i can.

i want replies (to this thread and the other one labeled C630M)

BTW David B, what do you mean by long couplers?

In general, bigger curves = better curves.

I say get a copy of 101 Track Plans. There are several layouts that will give you some great ideas.

There are lots of great 4 x 8 plans.

i gotta get me one of those! i have heard alot about the book and that layout looks great. maybe i can use it for ideas…

thanks for the replies
