I just had the wildest idea for a BNSF SD40-2 paint scheme. How about an SD40-2 painted all Brown with pure Black Trucks. With White end hand rails on both ends of the Locomotive. And the BNSF ‘New Image’ scheme with all white on both sides of the unit and also on the nose. Can someone pull up a cool photoshop of this? I was laying in bed when this thought just came to mind. A Brown BNSF. That would be totaly cool. Allan.
Well, brown isn’t my favorite color either, but next to Ugh Orange, it would be a whole lot better.
However, I do remember Houston Ed, I think, saying that the brighter engines are easier seen in the yard. Lights will reflect off the Ugh Orange better than a brown or even black. The white would help, but after all the $ BNSF has poured into the Ugh Orange, I can’t imagine they will ever change their color scheme. In fact, it isn’t all that far from UP’s Armour Yellow is it?
Sounds interesting. BNSF has had the Great Pumpkin, and the Barfbonnet, so why not a brown locomotive? Personally, I think the orange BNSF paint schemes are great, but it would be interesting to see what one of these would look like![:D]
Allen: Mudchicken has it right, NO sugar and definitely no more COLD PIZZA before bedtime![:P]
The other guys are right that Santa Fe’s “Warbonnet scheme” is a Class Act, no doubt!
But your idea for the Brown scheme would surely dovetail with the UPS business unit, and might help the RR out when they screw up a UPS move! Certainly, it is graffically no more or less inspired than the veritable plethora of current BNSF paint schemes, which seem to be more designed as rust prevenative barriers, rather than inspirational heritage paint schemes that do no justice to the railroad they represent, refer back to the “Warbonnet!” ![:O]
Actually, not so much brown as the oxide red in which BNSF paints most of its freight cars. Do that with white lettering, white safety appliances, white something-or-other on the nose for visibility, and yellow reflectorized markings, and silver trucks, and you might have a halfway decent-looking unit, reddish enough so that no clothespins would be necessary.
Were the bean-counters at one or two of the eastern railroads in charge there, that’s probably what you’d be seeing!
Have you seen a warbonnet in person lately? To be honest, they’re a disgrace to their heritage. That paint is not holding up and most of them have turned pink. I know the Santa Fe fans out there love the idea of bringing back the warbonnets, but they ones that are left are downright embarrassing.
That’s a photo I shot of a Santa Fe GP60M in April this 2006. I am pleased to say that I have seen many other warbonnets this year (I have photos [and video] to prove it), and none of them look pink at all. The only engine I’ve seen that looks somewhat bad was a Heritage II Dash 9 that turned almost yellow.
Anyone here like the Barfbonnet? Differnet colors but the same basic Santa Fe style. I like it myself.
In the Chicago area, we see plenty of Warbonnets in a wide range of cosmetic appearances. This one, however, is one of the really ugly ones – looks like it’s been cleaned with a flamethrower.[(-D]
Yeah. Sorry I didn’t have a better angle, but I driving at 50 mph parallel to the track and wasn’t expecting to take a picture of a ho-hum freight coming up alongside. When I saw this locomotive, I opened the zoom to full wide-angle, set the focus on infinity, and pointed the camera out the moon roof at the train and fired away. I was half-surprised it turned out as well as it did.
Think they’ll accept it at rr.pictures.net, Bergie? I sure hope so, 'cause otherwise I’ll just be devastated. [:O][(-D]
