and anything that is related to trains and railroading, one reason i fear death is because, there will be no railroading in the afterlife, I hope I don’t remember how much I loved trains!
Many say railroading is hellish. If so, I presume I will see lots of trains…
I have it on good authority that God is a railfan, and that there are railroads in heaven.
What authority. My own, just like all the others (from Bible book authors to current cult gurus) who claim to know.

This train is bound for glory, this train,
This train is bound for glory, this train,
This train is bound for glory,
Don’t ride nothin’ but the righteous and holy
This train is bound for glory, this train.
– Traditional
God may or may not be a railfan, but it’s my understanding that many high-ranking railroad officials think they are God…
Oddly, just like a couple of other topics that we aren’t allowed to discuss here, there are different flavors of railroading, and sometimes getting consensus is next to impossible.
We all love trains, but the ones I love are better than the ones you love… [:P]
Where do you think all those steam locomotives went? If a railfan dies he knows he went to heaven if he returns trackside in the 1950’s…if he went to hell he comes back as a gondola car!
And, what do women railfans come back as? Hmmm!
If there are no trains in Heaven, then it’s not much of a destination, although if all the pizza and chocolate and beer and cake and cookies are zero-calorie, then I might be willing to forgo the trains…
Everyone loves the things about specific trains (railroads and/or rolling stock) that they’re best at. Since we don’t all think the same features are ‘best…’
The trains you love are almost certainly better at moving huge tonnage than the ones I love. Back in the transition era a 1,000 ton train on my favorite rail line was a big whoop-de-do. Almost anything on North American rails could outdo that. OTOH, one of my favorite railroads has a right-of-way that could handle Y6 and Big Boy tonnages, and runs equipment that looks like refugees from an amusement park on 30 inch gauge track.
Isn’t it great that there are so many DIFFERENT kinds of trains to love?
Chuck
Oh, the many possibilities…but sorry, not here.[:$]
railfans!
[:X]
rwbishop, were you trying to stir up controversy here with that title?
There is nothing like a train
Nothing in the world
There is nothing you can name
That is anything like a train.
We’ve got interstates and highways
We’ve got streets to every where
We’ve go pick up trucks and roadsters
And bicycles and pop up toasters
We’ve got every kind of vehicle
That will run in our roads and lanes
What ain’t we got?
We ain’t got trains.
Well, to paraphrase Will Rodgers, “If there’s no trains in Heaven then when I die I want to go where they went!”
