Model Railroader’s guide to freight car trucks

Great article, very help in my modeling efforts

Answers a lot of my guestions. Thanks.

Check out TAHOE MODEL WORKS of Carson City, NV. They can be found in the MR back pages small ads. Highly detailed freight trucks with depth and fantastic rolling ability at a good price. Have used many of their AAR sets.

a good reference article–to equate with photos to choose the correct type of truck used

This is something that is well worth having. I missed it when it was originally published in 2003, to thank you for bringing it to our attention and making it available.

you don’t show or describe the Vulcan truck! it was another type of cast-steel sideframe that accepted journal boxes from arch-bar trucks. the modern roller-bearing trucks are essentially Vulcans. -big duke

Just in time to help with my layout stock taking of operating and stored cars, and fin those fitted with the wrong trucks for my modeling period ie. 1950’s

This was a very good article and to me every modeler should be familar with the trucks that the rolling stock rides on. I believe Tony K once said ," that the more we know about a subject the better we can model it."

Good info. Very helpful understanding the differences in the variety of trucks used over the years. Thanks.

Excellent for the modeler, that he looked forward these articles. Thanks

Now I’ll have to change all the trucks on my fleet!
Thanks MR a very useful article
Merry Christmas to all of you

A great article have down loaded for later reference.

A really good summary of truck types. It cleared up a number of questions for me.

This will be in my truck file.

Excellent article full of useful information for a novice like me… I suggest more articles like these; ie. brakes, couplers, other systems or characteristics of rolling stock…

Kudos!

this was very helpful ive been looking for this for a long time thanks great artical

Excellent article
I have returned to model railroading after five years of frustration in ever having a layout that actually works. I appreciate this article in helping me understand the differences in model trucks. Now I know better what type to use to mprove my rolling stock function.

Great artical which provides the high level of differentiation between the various trucks. It clarifies many items for a novice like me. Thanks for making it and all of your other articles available to us.

I will keep this nice article in my prototype info file!
