I work at a camp during the summer and teach a Model Railroad elective during the weeks the campers are their. We build little dioramas/layouts (each of the kids do, I just teach them.) The problem is that we need at least ten of the small train power packs (you know, the ones that come with the low priced train sets.).
If you guys have any that you don’t need, or don’t use, could you consider sending them to
I really hate to ask…But are you / is this for real?
I ask, because I’ve been totally torched when donating to a cause I thought was “legit” that wasn’t. So I am now a bit skeptical.
I’ll send off an email to you for some additional info, but thought it may benefit your effort if this got a bump! And a response.
I also would think that if you could somehow present yourself as legitimate…It may help you here on the forum!
But…In answer: Yes, I have old power packs and other “stuff” that I would / could donate as long as I have a paper trail for the IRS, when it comes to charitable contributions.
Steve, I’m a bit of a skeptic, myself, but after checking your web site, I’ve decided to send you the power pack that came with my Bachmann Overland Express. What better way to teach and reach young people about the World’s Greatest Hobby, AND about our Lord. Keep up the good work, and keep the faith…
While I too am a skeptic or Internet cons, it was obvious to me that this one was not one of them. Most people would not go to the trouble posting over 250 times for more than a year just to set up a small con.
Ozark-I’m not skeptical of this at all. I think it’s great that your teaching kids how to build trains!
I would gladly help you out if I had some extras. Unfortunately I don’t.[sigh]
Come on guys! He’s talking about $2 power packs. Not BLI/PCM steamers.
I have a bunch of older ones, but no money to pay for shipping, plus the power packs I have are 30+ years old and probably don’t work anyway…[banghead]
Thanks for the responses! Just for clarification, to prevent any more confusion, I am not Steve Rice. He is my supervisor. (program coordinator), I am one of the summer staff that will be teaching the elective. Sorry for any confusion.
I have a lot of the old Life-like ones. I have one older Bachmann one, and another is from the sixties and still works. (it was my dad’s when he was a kid).
IDK howmany of them work, but I’ll need three of the ones I have for a garage sale. (purchase of engine gets a powerpack)
I do have the odd old powerpack but shipping from Canada is not too cost effective. It would probably be cheaper to send money to buy new powerpacks with. [banghead]
I will be sending 2 Bachman power packs. I also have the Bachman track that came with the Thomas set (black roadbed- not Nickel silver) that you are welcome to.
Follow up: I donated a power pack that came with my Bachmann Overland Express train set. Below, are the images of the kind “thank you” card that I got from Steve Rice.
