True, though this is a rural area–every so often somebody drives a tractor or combine down Villard Street–so it might be less of an issue.
Personally I would choose the Amfleet II
- There isnt a limit on how many cars so I’m fine
- I can modify the Amfleet II to fit my needs if i need too
- Its simple and comfy
A railcar would hardly be my first choice for living accommodations, but if I am going to play this game, this would be my choice
Two full decks with an open observation deck on the upper level. It could be upgraded to be as comfortable as you can get in a 10’ width

Edit, I don’t know why it double posted the picture
PRR N 5c small but large enough be happy
Because you would have two. ![]()
thats cool that open observation deck makes me think second story porch for bbqing im pretty sure thered be enough ventelation up there to bbq plus great view of the sky day or night so just imagine looking out at the stars at night.
that reminds me of some couple on that treehouse show wanted their treehouse to have a bathroom on the exterior with no walls so they could feel like they were one with the nature around them. witch ill admit as secluded as it seemed it still seemed pretty rediculous i dont remember if they were able to accomidate them on it or not.
i would assume so since it is a tv show about building peoples dream treehouses but still i keep thinking man that would be kinda neat to be able to take a shower under the stars and moon and know its the real deal and not some glow in the dark stick on deal.
The open observation deck was a major reason I chose that car.
My first thought was a Dome/observation car, then I realized that all the dome cars were from the streamliner era, and none of the Dome/Observation cars that I could think of had open observation decks, then I remembered the Alaska RR cars that I showed, problem solved, more square footage, but not a “True Dome”.

Dome cars are a disaster unless you have LOTS of air-conditioning capacity at your disposal… and heat rises, so lots of circulating airflow, too.
I’d buy a “Slumbercoach” and then use Airbnb to rent out each room as a “cozy vacation hideaway” and charge $500 a night. Meanwhile I’ll have another drink in Kitchi-Gami-Club before turning in.
Wooden caboose. Hands down. I ain’t livin’ in an old railroad car for anything outside but some nearby trees and a breeze across the stoop (like Ed’s “Wilson’s Manor”). I’m there 96% for the ambiance of the car itself. If I need an overnight on a passenger car, I’ll spend the bucks on Amtrak. If I wanna spend a lot of bucks, I’ll hitch a ride on the Rocky Mountaineer and go whole hog.

Would the City of Chicago do? My nephew owns it and is trying to 'fix ‘er up’ :
Fortunately, Kitchi Gammi Club is still polishing the rails!

Thanks for remembering ol’ Wilson, John!
Just came across a photo I forgot about:
“Dad calls me Knucklehead. I wonder why that is?”
