IHB will be scrapping their last two NW2s, the 8811 and 8814. These two have been with the IHB since they were built in 1949. At least one museum has attempted to preserve one of these units but IHB said no to the attempt. Apparently they are getting stimulus money from the government to buy new gensets by scrapping the NW2s.

Not hardly, it only seems that way to us Chicagoans for whom IHB and NW2’s were virtually synonymous. Incidentally, I heard a while back that IHB did order three gensets.
