IHB SDP45 7601

I heard a rumor that the IHB was to get a former EL SDP45 to be numbered 7601, any truth to this, there has been many conflicting reports that the unit was scrapped and in service with the IHB

The basis of that rumor may be IHB 4010. It is former SP GP40P-2 7600 that was sold to IHB by way of GE and rebuilt. It still has the flared radiators and s/g space at the rear.

I have not heard anything even remotely close to that rumor. IHB is currently going to be purchasing gensets. SDP45s seem a bit large for the IHB anyway.

Paul is correct, there was never any ex-EL SDP going to the Indiana Harbor Belt. Someone saw the distinctive rear radiator section of the ex-SP GP40-2P when it was going through rebuilt and assumed it was an ex-EL SDP45. IHB 4010 is as close as you’ll get.
