IHC GG-1 loco...

I’ve bought sometime ago a IHC GG-1 loco (Amtrak #930), but realize that, although it runs well, the body bent longitudinally to one side. In other words, it is not horizontally aligned with main truck frame. Don’t know whether the problem can be solved but, if possible, I think that, first of all, body shell must be removed to check for the origin of it. How can I do that? Something to unscrew or not? Just pull it out?

I would appreciate your expertise on the whole stuff.

Thank you.

PS - I leave in Europe and no hobby shop sells IHC products around. I doubt that they even know the brand name. Otherwise, date for return the item to US dealer, where I bought it, is already passed.

The IHC is basically a copy of the Rivarossi GG1. Without looking at one at about the point where the front of the cab ends is a depression inside the shell on all four corners that engages a tab on the frame. Place the engine on a flat surface. Lift the engine slightly off the surface by putting your thumbs on the roof behind the pantographs and spread the edge of the shell outward on both sides withg your fingertips. When you find the right spot the chassis will drop out of that end of the shell. Then do the same thing on the other end. There might be a flexible wire connecting the pantographs to the electrical system or it may have a bent piece of metal to make contact. I suspect the latter. then you can examine the frame to see if there is a problem. Sometimes the shell just gets forced down beyond the locking tabs. you might try just pulling up on the low corner to see if it snaps in place.

Well, ndbprr, i’m thankfull for your information.

IHC GG1s are manufactured by Mehano… in Europe.[;)]

Thus if you need some parts, they should be easy to obtain from any serious dealer, or even directly from Mehano. http://www.mehano.si
