I currently own a IHC 2-6-0 Mother Hubbard/Camelback Locomotive and I’m have trouble installing DCC in this locomotive. I’ve looked at the magazine’s page on how to install the decoder in the other IHC 2-6-0, but this didn’t work for me. If anyone knows how to install DCC in this particular locomotive, I appreciate some info if you replay.
The problem isnt finding room for a small decoder (a DZ125 is a good choice), but rather the dissasembly of the loco. If you can find an exploded parts diagram somewhere, I would suggest you use that.
I have the correct decoder, its the installation that I’m having trouble with. In the document I found, one side of each truck under the tender is insulated, but on my locomotive, all the wheels are metal.
Yes, but is the axle plastic? If the axles are metal, the fact that the wheels are metal does not mean that there is no insulation. With metal wheels and a metal axle, you will have a short the minute you put the tender on the tracks. So with metal wheels and a metal axle, one of the wheels on the axle must have insulation at its bore.
If you have metal wheels and a plastic axle, then there is no electrical pickup from the tender unless the tender has a wiper that rides either on the wheel rim or against the back side of the wheel. If these are present, you should be able to see them.
Just make sure the motor does not draw to much apmerage. I had one recently that had a can motor but would pull 2 amps or more and killed the decoder. Use your multimeter and check the motor first before you start it will help alot.
I recently bought the IHC/Mehano Camelback out of an estate. It runs fine. Unfortunately it came without documentation. MEHANO was only able to send me a pdf of the general instructions (as they engine is out of production, they no longer have others available).
Would someone here please be able and wiling to scan and mail me the technical instrcutions (especially the explosion view and assembly instructions)?
