Hi everyone, I am interested in getting passenger car interiors for my IHC heavyweight passenger cars. I have found some on ebay but they are marked interiors for SS and CS cars. Will these also fit the HW (heavyweight) cars? If not, where could I find interiors for these cars. I have found a internet site called the palace car that sells kits that you can put together. If all else I will get these sets. Thanks.

The SS/CS interiors fit inside the Heavyweights, however, keep in mind that:
-
The coach, diner, observation, and sleeping car interiors are designed for 85foot streamlined cars. I may be mistaken but the IHC Heavyweights are a scale 80ft. max. Might or might not make a difference with the interior.
-
The CS/SS interiors are slightly narrower than the heavyweight interiors, so they should be able to drop in.
HOWEVER, keep in mind that the sides of these kits have notches cut out for some of the floor protusions that the sides of the car floors have. So you may have to perform some cutting and/trimming.
Also, the seats / dining car tables/ sofas/ etc for the streamlined car interiors might not properly line up with your heavyweight cars’ windows. So, again, you may have to perform some cutting/trimming to get them properly placed.
Opposite of your situation, I’ve installed heavyweight interiors inside of streamliners. I had to trim the sides and ends so that they would line up with the windows as well as fit inside. But it was easy to do, just took a little “trial and error” patience.
If you get the IHC interiors that are molded in blue and red, I suggest that you wash or clean them first and apply 1 to 2 coats of gray or tan primer. THEN paint the individual seats and details with your preferred colors (make sure the finish is flat and not glossy). You’ll likely be pleased with the results. [Y][:D]
LocoJunkie,
Was the info useful? Have you decided to purchase the IHC interiors?
Yes the information was useful. I am certainly going to purchase them I think. I also have to purchase the lighting kits too I think. I probably should have looked into getting IHC cars with the interiors and lights already installed. But from what I hear and see they are getting scarce like that. I think they quit making them with interiors and lights?
IHC (International Hobby Corporation) has been out of business for nearly 10 years, so yes, the cars, interiors, and lights are getting scarce and going up in price as they get harder and harder to find…
I lit my IHC streamliners with a light bar kit from Walthers intended for the Walther’s passenger cars. It fit right in. You will have to install metal wheels for power pickup. I made axle wipers out of phosphor bronze weather stripping to get the juice from the wheels into the car proper. The Walther’s light bar kit has three lamps and a voltage regulating electronics package that keeps the lamps burning at constant brightness. It probably only works on plain old DC. DCC will probably confuse it. I lined the car roofs with bright silver tape to keep the roof from glowing with the lights on.
IHC Texas still exists with leftover parts from the old IHC. I’ve bought passenger cars and accessories from them: http://www.ihc-hobby.com/search?searchwords=interior&searchsmall_4920=Search
Hi there,
As I am trying to search for good interior passenger car, I saw your post. Boy, these interiors from Palace are amazing, but very expensive as well. I am curious to see the result of what you chose and ended up installing
