I'm back

I have been away from this forum for a long time but decided to take another crack at it after reading the current issue of CTT magazine. I had a little trouble navigating here and did not have a valid pass word but with a little help via your E mail I’m back. I look forward to reading new post and meeting old and new friends here and to post when I have something worth while. Thank you, Ray (SPMan)

Didn’t know you were gone. Remember a Ray from CA. Nothing in your profile. We have learned to watch “secret agents”. Tell us more about yourself. Old minds are hard at remembering.

PS: seems this old mind remembers a Daylight Special. Right???

Chief Eagles, You’re right! I have’nt really been gone. I just have’nt posted anything here in a long time. I belong to the other forum under the same name (SPman). As for profile, I am a retired railroad engineer. Retired from the former Southern Pacific, now UP in the year 2000. I have been in O Gauge train collecting/operating since about 1971. Prior to that, I belonged to an HO gauge club for many years. Started in O Gauge with Lionel but now concentrate mainly on state of the art model trains from MTH, Lionel and others. I have the DCS control system from MTH. My layout is in a garage 24X20 feet, is double track main with some sidings. I have an 8 track stub end passenger terminal. The layout has two reverse loops and or wye tracks, a 4 track engine facility. I don’t have any hard shell scenery yet but have quite a few accessories on the layout including bascule bridge and vertical lift bridge from Lionel. Lots of signals, Lionel tug boat and big bay light house that I used in a harbor scene. There are many buildings on the layout. I belong to a group of 3 rail O gaugers that have been meeting at each other’s layouts for over 30 years. We are currently down to just a few of us left due to people passing on or moving away. I have belonged to TTOS for many years in the past (Southwestern Division) and I currently belong to TCA Western Division which meets in Arcadia, Calif. I have been a railfan all my life and have done a good share of that over the years as well. Ray

Thanks for the info. Remember you. Just wanted to make sure I had the right guy. Glad you are back. Keep on posting.

Hey Chief, since this is a holiday weekend and most of us are doing holidayish type things such as cook outs and fishing I was wondering is that a channel cat in your picture? Where’d you catch him?

You can take this to the bank: That is one big largemouth bass.

Glad to have you back, SPMAN. I’ll be in Northern California this summer.

SPMAN, Welcome !! I’m sure you are aware of the AGHR club, since you post regularly on the other forum. But in case your not, I would like to extend a cordial invitation for you to visit and consider our club. The facility is located in San Pedro, and we have a great time. Layout is configured for TMCC, DCS, and Legacy.

Again welcome back !!

Chief Eagles, forgot to reply to your reference about the Daylight Special. The only thing I can think of was one time I got a cab ride on the 4449 between West Colton, Ca. and Ferrum, Ca. (near Salton Sea) as part of the pilot crew. They were taking the engine to the Kaiser Railroad at the Eagle Mountain Mine to do some filming for the movie “Tough Guys” starring Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. I also got to ride behind her on the return trip to Portland with some other SP Employees. I rode between Tehachapi and Fresno, Ca. Those were some of my most memorable days on the SP.

Don, re the AGHR, I am very aware of them. They are great people and I have been to two of their open houses. I have met Matt Jackson, John Pignatelli, Jeff Remy and some others. They all gave me the grand tour. I know some of your members drive a long way to meetings but at my age, I don’t have the energy to do it anymore on a regular basis. I wish I could. I live in Glendora which is a good hike from there. I know John and Matt drive a long way too.

Thanks to all of you folks for the welcome mat here on the CTT forum. Ray
