Can anyone point me in the right direction of a few good, and moderatly priced books about the Virginia and Truckee and the Sierra Railroads? I’ve done some searching on Amazon.com but what I can find seems very high priced. thank you for all your help.
Dave
Unfortunately, railroad-specific reference books ARE high-priced, especially when compared to the potboiler romance paperbacks sold in drug stores and supermarkets. The obvious reasons:
- The amount of research required to assemble such a book.
- Photo acquisition and reproduction.
- Payment to copyright holders if copyrighted material is included. This includes, but is not limited to, photos.
- The higher cost-per-unit of a comparatively short print run, predicated on the narrow audience and small demand for such books.
The best thing to do is make a list of the titles you want, then watch for them on E-Bay. If you can’t wait, the only other choice is to bite the bullet and pay full price.
