In case you wondered...

…what the inside of a covered hopper looks like (photo isn’t mine):

This, and several other cars from the December 2010 Neenah Derailment, are finally being cut for scrap in Neenah, WI’s CN Yard. I hope to make it up that way to get my own shots.

Interesting. When and where was the derailment?

That’d make a cool exhibit for a technology museum.

The derailment was on Dec 27, 2010 in Neenah. 11 cars went on the ground due to a broken rail in the middle of the NEENAH SOUTH crossovers. These 11 cars bounced around from track to track in Neenah waiting disposition for 7 months until someone finally made a decision or a bid came in (not sure which). 4 of the 11 cars “disappeared” one day and we’re not sure where they went (Fond du Lac?) for scrapping. The remaining 7 are in various stages of being scrapped in Neenah Yard. If you go to my Flickr site (search user: Wide Cab) and then look in the “Rail Pictures” collection for my “Derailments” set you should see a folder for “Neenah Dec 27, 2010” with further pictures. I can’t seem to get in to Flickr right now or I’d link there.

Yes that probably would be cool in a museum.
