The volume on my rs-1 decoder is very low and i was trying to increase the horn volume. This is a loc sound decoder that was installed from the factory on my Atlas RS-1.
I tried different cv’s but i can’t get the volume to increase.
I set the cv 32 to 1, then chenged to value of cv 275 to 128 (max).Still no change. I tried turning the NCE syatem off and back on again, still no change.I am trying to change this in ops mode programming (on the main).
Thanks for the info gary and Henry. I adjusted the master volume cv and it did have an immediate effect on all the sound levels. However, the horn is still very low and will not adjust along with the other sound levels.
I will try a factory reset and follow the instructions via cv8 (value8), then tip the loco on one side for 10 seconds and bring it back down. Hopefully this will bring all my sound levels back to normal and factory specs. I will post a reply when i do this tomorrow.
Thank’s again for your help. Plus i will download the ESU documentation.
Remember that if this is an OEM sound project and not one of ESU’s own, various assignments for functions and sounds could be different than what the manual describes. Try adjusting some of the other individual volumes, the one you think should be adjusting the horn may not be assigned to the horn sound at all.
This has always been one of the reasons I prefer ESU over Tsunami - the horns on ESU decoders are loud and clear and can easily be made louder than the prime mover. None of the Tsunamis I had could do that without dropping the prime mover really low. It may also be a speaker issue - there are most definitely some better than others, and it’s not always the biggest that’s the best.
If the CV for the horn volume is as high as it will go, the only way to make it louder is to increase the master volume. Once you get the horn as loud as you want it, you’ll need to lower the value of the other sound CVs. You can’t make the horn louder than the maximum volume possible.
BTW you might try using different horn sounds. I know with some Soundtraxx decoders that the sound of one style of horn might be only half as loud as some other options.
