i prefer Grain and Intermoldel
goes great with Mid-west railroading
What about Pulp and paper mills
I voted for coal.
Wire rope could be there (lots of bridge building in the early days), armaments factories, quarries, lime kilns, mining in general (shipping of copper, lead, and zinc, for example, in either ingot or concentrate form) and smelting, foundries, ports with large stockpiles of yellow elemental sulfur piled on the wharf, refineries, …say when…
Marine docks are fun…so many possabilities.
Coal. Kentucky/WV type, not Wyoming.
Logging and Mining are what I’m modeling–glad you put other.
Lumber & Agricultural products here…
I said other. The Rocky Shores Railroad will have a Marine Dock…hopefully…someday…

I voted “steel” because that’s what will occupy 60% of my layout. But I will also have a WV-style coal mine to provide point-to-point operation between there and my coke ovens. [:P]
Coal. I am facinated by the US coal mining industry from the 30’s to the 60’s. It is an incredible social history.
Furniture builders, grocery store wholesalers, printing companies, machinery manufacturers, orange juice plants…
Bascally any industries that utilize boxcars and reefers…
Manufactured goods[;)]
Feed and grain, Reefer Icing, Cold Storage, Coal, Oil etc…
Seeing that I like boxcars, reefers, cover hoppers, coil cars and tank cars my industries is base on those type of cars.[:D] I never cared that much about gons, open hoppers or flat cars…
Other - Did not see meat packing plants, or Canning operations. Both were ‘volume’ carload shippers in the 50’s.

Grain and Scrap. i have a sizeable fleet of both
Coal too, I’ve been fasinated with coal trains since I can first remember.
Ken.
I like the older smaller sites such as lumber yards, hardware stores, feed and grain.
Enjoy

Coal. I’ve got a small fleet (10) of old working hopper cars, and a loading tower, so I can shuffle small trains around and actually move the goods.
Coal, but also a heavy industrial/forge complex
