Industrial Shelving

Hey guys,

I’m putting together a Construction Supply Warehouse on my layout, but I’m having trouble finding some detail parts. I thought I saw in the Walther’s catalog some industrial type shelving to go inside my warehouse, but for the life of me I can not find it again. Is there a company that makes this style of shelving or am I going to have to scratch build something?

Chad

Maybe this Preiser pallet rack kit? HO scale, Out of Stock, TBA.

Could be faster to just use some O-scale ladder stock with some additional styrene strip and angled added as needed? - ETA, looking at the Plastruct site, seems like O scale ladder stock is about 36" HO, while G scale is about 64" HO, neither really that close to the 48"W (x 40 or 48") length of standard US pallets.

Make a jig and build the racks completely out of strip and angle.

The Preiser racks look pretty neat. Just be sure to add sway bracing or anchor the tops, or you’ll soon have a pile-o’-pallets.

YES thats it! Now just gotta wait til its in stock…ugh!

Chad, as already suggested this should be an easy scratchbuild. If you haven’t scratch built anything before this would be a nice easy project to start. Be advised that often at Walther’s, Out of Stock, TBA can be years or never before its back in stock. Another reason to scratch build.

Good Luck, Derek

Might have to try that for now Derek. Yeah never really tried tackling a scratch building project before. I’ll post pics as I go along.

Well, you can start here to get the basic ideas of dimensions - then, you can plan as if you are creating a real warehouse rack system by using those dimensional guidelines - and from that, you can create the jigs and drawings you need to create several sets of racks. The link has other links to the uprights and beams they sell, including key dimensions and images, so there you go. Actually, it just seemed the best starting point of any company for racks, although they are pushing their “closed tube system” as opposed to open back channels, the dimensions seem pretty universal.
