I had a thread about this earlier but not all my questions got answered. so here it goes
http://www.1stplacehobbies.com/cgi-bin/prod.asp?pn=933-3017 would a coal mine be found in the midwest?
http://www.1stplacehobbies.com/cgi-bin/prod.asp?pn=933-3019 what in / out loads would the cement co. have?
http://www.firsthobby.com/store1/Product.asp?ProductID=WALS2918&SN=2006020118212946 other than boxcars, what else could be spotted at the transload building?
Just answer the questions i posted, that’s all i need to know.
TIA (thanks in advance)

yes, coal mines are found in the midwest, however, I’m not too sure that too many are served anymore, most shut down in the 50s and 60s. Illinois had several coal fields, Iowa had some as well. However, most coal now is coming from the Powder River basin in Wyoming and still some from the Appalachians, You may want to do a search on Illinois coal fields.
Cement needs lime (limestone), powdered clay, iron ore and (or) bauxite. So you could have loads in of those materials/minerals.
For the transload building, I’m sure it could handle stuff from flat cars too. Palletized materials, machinery, small pipes, buildin materials, etc.
If I find any pictures, I’ll post them.

I would like to see an industrial model listing for all kinds of industries. We know what the common type of industries ship and receive but what about others that are more complex. Say an oil refinery receives oil and ships refined fuel, but also has chemical tank cars leaving, what type of chemicals? A chain link fence manufacture would have wire and zinc for galvanizing, what else would they need by freight car?
what types of freight cars haul these products?
Anything powered would be carried in small covered hoppers to keep it from getting wet/blowing away during shipment.

That’s what i thought but isn’t limestone carried in open hoppers?
dingoix, alot of times, cement companies are located near limestone quarries so no need to bring that in. I would say that yes, limestone could be brought in by hopper or gondola. I guess it would have to depend on if the limestone was process somewhere else to powered form before being brought in. Without doing some more research on the web or at the library, I wouldn’t be able to add any more useful information for you.
