Inexpensive source of copper

If you are interested in soldering copper for structures and want an inexpensive source, Home Depot and Lowes offer large-diameter copper tubing (about $12 for a 10-ft section, 3-in dia. It can be flattened and then cut easily. Sections can then be used to make girder bridges, signal towers, etc.

Another source of copper is the roofing industry. Sheet copper is used for both
roofing and rain gutters. It is a lot easier to start with a flat sheet.

Have fun!

Reminded me of a joke I’d heard as a kid. (No offence meant)

growing up in a home of Dutch parents - one of the favourite jokes was that copper wire was invented by two Dutchmen fighting over a penny…
now that would be a cheap source of coppper, it costs, well let’s see… a penny

Yeah… if they weren’t zinc…

here is a variation on the stretched into copper wire penny: the origin of the Grand Canyon? Dutch pioneers digging for a lost penny. Incidentally these kind of jokes are invented by Belgians who think Dutchmen are misers.
