Has anyone been able to get anymore information on the scheduled release of the ready to run SD45 that is comming out in spring 07. I got a mini booklet that has a list of what is comming out for the 1st part of 07 and it just lists that they plan a RTR SD45 run but no paint schemes planned yet.
Latest word is late March of 2007.
But the MSRP price of $244 makes me say “YIPES”! If I’m paying that kind of a price, it better have a QSI, Loksound, or Sountraxx Tsunami sound system onboard!

I prefer Cmarchand’s solution. Buy a non-sound SD45-2 and equip it with a sweet sounding LokSound setup![{(-_-)}][tup]
It wont be $244.00 unless it has sound. Or is half brass half plastic. Even Kato’s dont go for that much.
From looking at the Athearn website it looks like the SD45-2 scheduled for 2007 release is a Genesis with sound/DCC for $239 MSRP. The RTR SD45-2 MSRP is $99.00 and I think was released in 2006.
Sorry, I should have been more clear on my earlier posting. I was referring to the price with the onboard sound system. I’m glad the price came down a few dollars.
$99 for a straight Genesis unit that’s DCC capable sounds pretty good. The detailing on the RTR SD45-2, imho, was beautifully done. So will these new Genesis units feature even more body details or are we primarily paying for the higher quality drive?
Guys there seems to be some confusion here…The SD45-2 sells for $139.98 while the RTR SD45T-2 sell for $99.98.
Also Athearn will be releasing the regular SD45.This unit is NO kin to the old fat body SD45 but,will a upgraded RPP shell and will be in the RTR line…

The Athearn site lists Genesis SD45-2 at $239.98 (or $244.98 depending on paint scheme) and RTR SD45-2 at 139.98.

First the $239.98/244.98 is for DCC/Sound equipped SD45-2.
The non-sound GENESIS SD45-2 is $139.98…
There is a difference between the RTR line and the GENESIS line.
Sorry about the confusion. When you type SD45-2 in the Search on Athearn site, only the Genesis items appear. For some reason the RTR items show up if you type SD-45.

And its going to get worst with the new SD45,SD45-2,SD45T-2,SD40,SD40-2 and SD40T-2.[:O] And the only Genesis in that bunch is the SD45-2!
Remember when Athearn was simple Athearn? Now its chopped up into BB,BB RTR,upgraded BB RTR,Athearn/RPP and all new tooling…Plus Genesis…
But they run better.
Yeah I’ve been wondering this too. My guess for paints schemes will be this. First to last, ATSF, BN, SP, wait a little while, N&W, N&S Conrail, SP Kodachrome, SF Kodachrome, wait a little while, WC, D&RGW, and MRL. That’s a guess. I’m not sure. There must be some confusion. The SD45 is in RTR, and might only cost $100-$110. No sound, No DCC. Just plain RTR. Or maybe I’m confused and this had already been cleared up. [%-)]

We STILL have some confusion here … the original poster is asking about the SD45, NOT the SD45**-2** . What I’m confused with is the statement that it’s to be released “spring 2007” … well, spring 2007 came and went some time ago … what’s the LATEST word on the release date ???

I searched the Athearn web site for a reference to the SD45 with no results.
Did the Google thing, also no results.
And none of the online hobby shops I looked at (Like Tony’s) have any listing for a SD45, not even as a pre-order. So looks like it may be awhile.
aw crap. i’ve been waiting for some news on the SD45s. i’m hoping they’ll do a WC one in a non-unique paint scheme so i can renumber it. KATO’s is too difficult to alter into the traditional WC paint and P2ks are impossible to find.
Lord Atmo, I sure hope so too. There where 2 WC P2K SD45s on Ebay. Those dang snipers got them. KATO, I never will go with them. I HATE the 6677 scheme. The cream, and marron, uck.
OK, he was Asking about the SD45. I sent Athearn an Email asking if they where going to make the SD45, what road names, adn price. All they said is they still have plans on making one.
