Installing cork roadbed and track on spline roadbed

I’m at the stage of laying track and cork roadbed on spline roadbed. My method was using pine 1x’s ripped into 1/4 " wide pieces. Is it wise, necessary, advisable to prime the unfinished splines prior to track installation. Perhaps for stronger adhesion.

Also, what is anyones opinion, when using plaster-impregnated gauze over styrofoam landscape contours, too pre-draping and fastening the gauze over the spines prior to cork bed installation. When the time came for landscape construction, that would give you a seamless and sturdy connection to the landscape forms. Having been in the construction trades, I view this as having the same effect as taping sheetrock joints.

Thank you in advance for any advice you might be able to offer.
