Intermountain announces N scale AC12 Cab Forward

Coming to a store near you late in the year according to the Intermountain web site.

Cheers

Let us hope that with a 2-8-8-4 mechanism Intermountain will start thinking EM-1 or perhaps even M3/M4. Of course N-Scale manufacturers still must get beyond that "great turkey’ mentality.

Frankly, considering the negative reviews I’ve read about the Intermountain HO AC-12 and it’s poor top running speed–and from what I understand, hauling capabilities–I hope the N-scale version at least APPROACHES what the actual AC-12 was capable of, as far as clipping along and hauling.

Cosmetically, the Intermountain HO AC is just beautiful. But I understand that as an operating loco, it leaves a GREAT deal to be desired.

Now that sounds like an N-Scale steamer we can all be proud of!

I hope Intermountain does a much better job on the N scale drive train compared to the HO model. I was fortunate to get a good running AC12 with sound, but it will never run on a layout since it does not pull well and the drivers can go out of quarter and gauge. One of my friends sent his back to Intermountain for repairs and it came back with the same type of problems.

I emailed Intermountain over the weekend asking if the new 2nd run of HO models would have an improved drive system or is it identical to the first run. I hope they have improved the 2nd run and added weight to the model or a traction tire so it can pull a train.

The Intermountain AC12 is very nice looking indeed, but I hope the N scale model has a much improved drive system compared to the HO model. Anyone else notice the steam dome on the Intermountain AC12 is not shaped correctly?
