I am looking to possibly purchase some Intermountain Diesel Locomotives. Since I have never used Intermountain, does anyone have any feedback on the quality of their product? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I have got the DC version of the U18B some weeks ago.
The engine runs as smooth at Atlas does, DCC installation was done within minutes. The details are fine. Something between Atlas silver and Trainman. I would buy it again.[:)]
I have several sets of Intermountain F units and FP units. I consider them as good as any, equal to my Genesis Funits. They run well and pull well.
I run DC so mine are DC versions with no sound. Very, very nice.
And they are a very good company to deal with. I needed some spare parts for a kit building project which they supplied at little cost and very quickly.

I have a total of 19 Intermountain FP7As, F7As and Bs, and F3As and Bs, all with DCC and sound in roads C&EI, CNW, KCS, MKT, MON, and SOU. Good runners, appearance, and sound right out of the box over the last three years, with no problems to date, knock on wood.
Purchased them primarily on-line from Ed’s Trains and Caboose Hobbies in Colorado, as well as a few from EBay. In fact, I picked up three of Ed’s Trains purchases directly from Intermountain HQ in Longmont, CO while on vacation out west and driving between Denver and Cheyenne, WY. Fine people and products.
Good luck!
HO or N? The HO models are gold, while in N, the SD40s and Tunnel Motors had tons of flaws in both the detail aspect and in running qualities.

I have a number of EMD F units made by Intermountain, Stewart, Athearn Genesis and Proto.
I rate the Intermountain units the best running of the group as well as the most detailed. I would buy them again without hesitation.
I have dealt with their service department and they are excellent. You can not go wrong with the Intermountain units.
I have a couple sets of the FT’s (n scale) the oldest set dating back to when they used a pin to connect the drawer bar between the A & B units (probably 10 years old). The newer set has the snap together drawer bar between the units and came dcc ready which the earlier units were not. Intermountain has always offered outstanding support. Although I’ve only had a few minor problems, my own fault, they have always taken the time to figure out the problem and then sent me the parts I needed at no cost. If they made all the different models I run, there wouldn’t be anything but Intermountains on my layout.
I’ll second Tachyon’s reply, regarding if Intermountain made all the models I was interested in. I actually replaced an older Kato F7 with one of the Intermountain F3s on my layout, for a commuter train.
I’ve got 4 sets of their HO scale FP9A’s and the B units, 2 of those sets have sound as well as 3 FP7A’s and one of those has sound. They are very smooth running locomotives with lots of detail. The sound versions sound great, especially a A and B unit together. Converting them to DCC is simple, they have a 8 pin plug so all you do is plug in the decoder. The only problem I’ve had with one of them was one of the vent covers on the side decided to fall off. It was a simple fix and I’ve had no problems with the others.
I have four of their F units in HO and they are excellent performers. Did have an issue with one unit and Intermountain personnel were very pleasant to deal with and actually enthusiastic in helping out. From prior replies you’ve gotten I know its redundant to cite their product service and support but in my opinion Intermountain Railway Company sets a standard that others in the industry should emulate.
