Intermountain F unit lighting

Just received an Intermountain F3A. Runs flawlessly; would have to search thesaurus for the right superlative- it’s that good.
To IMRC re this unit [bow] [bow] [bow] [bow] [bow] and many [tup]'s.

However, the headlight doesn’t have the intensity of my Genesis F units. [?] Is there some way to modify the IMRC F unit headlight to equal that of the Athearn Genesis units?

I did a search of past postings for IMRC F units and didn’t come up with anything. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. It seems each time I think the locos on the market can’t get any better, they do! As expressed by another poster, what a time to be a model railroader! [:D]

Considering the number of people posting about blown headlights on Genesis units I’m pretty sure I would leave it alone.

IM uses a 12V OR 14V bulb (as did Atlas, and Kato before them) and get’s brighter with increased speed. Genesis Engines use 1.5V bulbs with a Constant Voltage package

Use a CV lighting package or better yet a Richmond controls EZ light w. Gyralight. and you’ll have a more realistic engine, as well as performer…

The beauty of Richmond’s Gyralite is it’s only needed for the the ‘A’ 'engine . Other’s CV unit’s slow down the engine 3 volts - therefor multiples are needed for all AB combination’s.

For ‘F’ unit’s, get the bezel. Once you see the Richmond Gyralight, you’ll want it in ALL your engine’s. You’ve been warned!

I’m getting the impression from loco problem postings that the last thing someone should do is reserve a new model loco. I’m pretty sure that I purchase most of my locos (except the first run of BLI Hudson) some time post introduction. Knock on wood, I haven’t had a problem with the Genesis F units at all.

Don,
Per your suggestion I did check out Richmond-thanks for the info! I’m primarily NYC so I don’t think Gyralight is appropriate.

Jon

Is that the exact search that was specified? I did one using just “Intermountain”, and found some stuff about the grill works, and this one vs. the BLI, etc.

On first Intermountain units, the headlamps were too bright. They “glowed” through plastic on the nose. I had to paint the inside of the shell.
