InterMountain Freight Cars

I just purchased an Intermountain refridgerator car on ebay it was new and in the box. Looking at the car quality seems to be very good. What have others found with these cars? Is it as good as it looks? Thank you K

I just bought my second Intermountain Pfauldler milk car yesterday. They are beautifully detailed and run well. You’ll love it.

I was not sure if the detailing was acurate. I thought it was well detailed and sturdy.

They rate right up there with MTL (Micro Train Line)…

I have a few dozen Intermountain cars. I rate them as one of the best there is.

VERY happy with my Intermountain HO freight cars, either RTR or kits. The cars are well-weighted, beautifully detailed and very smooth runners (Intermountain wheel-sets are about the best on the market). About the only thing I ever do is convert their couplers to Kadee #5’s for more reliability, but the cars themselves are just about perfect!

If this is an N scale car then its great. If Its an HO Car its still great, but it needs better trucks. The Intermountain trucks like to flex and fall apart. I don’t recamend dropping the car though…my friend did that with one of his and…ah…well…Intermountain cars don’t fair to well when they learn about gravity…

I just put one together. Definitely a couple of steps ahead of than Athearn BB or Accurail. I really like the finished product!! You might try a Red Caboose kit, too.

I purchased my first Intermountain car recently (Santa Fe “Santa for Safety” caboose). It is an HO ready to run model. I was impressed overall, especially with the fact that they come with Kadees, but was dissappointed with the fact that I had to install a washer between the truck and the bolster. That was because the wheels were rubbing on the underbody. I figured for a $50 caboose, something like that should not have been a problem. Once I installed the washers, it rolled like a champ.

I was also hoping for a little more underbody detail, but it isn’t too bad.

It definately blows the Athearn RTR version out of the water!!
