InterMountain HO scale FP7 road diesel locomotive
I am very satisfied with the intermountain FP7’s I purchased. A great locomotive. well worth the price.
Excellant looking unit and I am very pleased to see a Canadian line included just might possible concider purchasing one of these as Inter Mountain has an excellant reputation for quality
I am looking for the New Haven diesel?? When?
Can this mean that N scale Milwaukee units will also be available in the near future?
did the B&O have any of these FP units?
Sounds like a winner! Any chance of the same thing in N scale? Also in CP paint?
I bought the non-DCC Western Pacific version and must say I am very happy with the model. It runs very well on standard DC power. Good low end speed and not toy like fast on the upper end. My biggest problem with the model are the Farr intake grills. My A-unit’s grills have with time become a little wavy and loose. Other than that picky detail it is a top notch model and performer. Now if Intermountain would do the Western Pacific set in the original as delivered scheme, I would be really happy!
For us ACL modelers, this is welcomed…the only other offering of FP7s before this came from Atlas which were good running models, but not the best detail on the shell. These shells are beautiful- look at the detail on the door latch! The paint looks great, but to my eye, the ACL lettering looks incorrect- looks too ‘wide’. Otherwise, what a great addition for those of use who need FP’s in our locomotive fleets.
It looks like this run is a little bit better assembled than the first run. My two Milwaukees from the first run have got big gaps where the hatches on the roof go in. The paint doesn’t look as heavy either. I talked to Matt from Intermountain at Trainfest in Milwaukee and he said that they would try to take care of those issues for me in the next run. They do run sweet though just as I expected from Intermountain. All in all a great locomotive at a very good price. A very good value.
This is a good looking model, and it sounds like it runs well, too. Where can I find a list of the roads that bought FP7’s? Thanks.
I found the sound output on my FP7 to be lower than my B unit at default settings. The rear louvers on the A unit are open through the etched grill. This ‘hole’ needs to be covered for better sound output from the inside with some black tape. You can try this on your own by covering the rear inch of the grill on both sides with your thumb and forefinger. The sound will become louder and the bass sounds deeper.
I liked the review on Intermountain’s FP-7s. Happy to see a manufacturer in HO bring this particular to market. Although I am an O Gauge 3 railer(all equipment is to scale),I do have some HO equipment. It is tempting to purchase these units since I model the Milwaukee Road. No one to date has attempted to model this particular unit in O scale(2 or 3 rail)such as Atlas or Weaver. I saw these unit many times pulling the Hiawathas,Pioneer Limited,The Varsity, and other passenger trains since I have lived by the Milwaukee Road most of my life.My only other comment is these units should also be painted in thde pre-Cities trains era(before oct,1955. Thank you for alowing me to write this commentary.
I have not tryed this engine but sounds like a great idea on dcc should look good in southern green might try it later on Thanks PS all it needs is a miniture engineer
This looks like a great offering. However, as best as I can remember, ACL used FP7s singly or in pairs with other FP7s. I have never seen an FP7 in royal purple and aluminum running with an F7B. Strange to say, but I think the drawbar pull is almost twice in number of cars that the prototype could pull. It would suit me if Intermountain were to offer a dummy FP7A, also with sound. No FP7Bs were ever produced.
The Intermountain FP7 Units are great. They run well and are greatly detailed. However, very early in their career with the Canadian Pacific Railroad the horn was converted to 3-chime and the units only come with a single chime horn. Is there a way that Intermountain can create a downloadable file for their units? Otherwise they are wonderful.
Good locomotive, nice detail. To get sound to be as rich as the B unit, you need to cover the inside louver holes in the rear steam generator area. These openings detract from the shell acting as the speaker housing. Try it first by covering the rear inch or so of the louvers on the sides with your thumb and forefinger.
My Western Pacific model came with a 48" dynamic fan. Should have been 36".
It would be great if you also produced the Milwaukee Road in the orange and maroon paint scheme. Keep up the good work.
(revision) Can we have the distinctive yellow nosed green and black Canadian National passenger version that is so beautiful? There is another model makers passenger cars that await its arrival.
