I see that the Port of Stockton’s Daily Vessel Log lists a ship due in today to load iron ore to China. So far I have not been able to find out anything about this. Presumably the iron ore came to Stockton by rail. Has anyone heard anything about this?
Iron Mountain Mine near Cedar City, UT. A shortline operates the branch while Union Pacific does the linehaul, The mine is owned and operated by CML Metals. formerly owned by Palladon Ventures.
Thanks. Too bad there are no western US steel mills to sell to. I see the ore originally went to Richmond and has been going on for a while (press release). According to Utah Rails, they are using rapid discharge cars.
[^o)] Iron ore to China~~~ Some 70 yrs. past didn"t the U.S. sell scrap iron to Japan ? Then they gave it back to us in a not nice way. Just curious about this.
Jim
China maybe, they got some, but it was to the Japanese, mostly that bought shiploads of scrap metals.
They gave it back to U.S. in the little dust-up called WWII . It was the bombing of the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, that really got America seriously interested in what was happening in the European Theater and what the Japanese were doing in the Pacific. .
The Germans had pretty well started in Europe by invading their neighbors Czechoslovakia and then Poland… The rest is History.
These galleries include photographs of the cars.

I just saw one of these trains heading south through the southern part of the San Joaquin Valley (over 100 miles south of Stockton). I wonder why it is taking that route.
