Is a hundred watts enough?

I am a bit worried about overworking my MTH Z1000 transformers. I have read in a few different places that 2 motored locos can consume up to 105 watts, and steamers with whistle and smoke, up to 90. One can assume that these are numbers associated with open frame, AC motors, like those found in postwar engines.

A little background. I have had 2 MTH Z1000 power my 2 seperate mainlines for almost 4 years. I mostly run postwar engines. The biggest being my 2321 FM Trainmaster. I have never had a problem with transformers or locos. In fact, my 2321 runs quite smoothly with about 65% throttle. No heat problems with loco or transformer. No circuit breaker problems or anything. The other powerhouse is probably my 681 with 3 lighted 2400 series pass. cars. Again, not problems at all.

Now, for the question…Am I asking too much of my Z1000s?

I doubt it.

If the Z1000s are not getting hot, then you have no problem. just enjoy.

Like the other guys say if no problem why worry?

Trust me the circuit breaker throws very quick with the Z1000 as I had wired a straight short in my track wiring and it let me know rather quickly!

I have powered up to four locomotives at one time from my Z1000, it was a switching mistake but it worked and no circuit breaker popping. If the cars were all passenger cars then I may have had a problem.
