I Love The Hobby I cant Think of anything Better Then to get out there,And let my mind run wild…

I started college in January, so I haven’t had much time to work on my model railroad very much. Since January, I’ve worked on it for less than ten hours (which also lead to me posting on the forums far less often). But now I’m on summer vacation, so I hope on having more time to work on it.
I do a little every day whether it is paint or research. Lately I only get one big work session on weekends.
I put down full time, as it was the most descriptive. Like Space Mouse, if I’m not doing I’m either researching or dreaming. I’m headed North in a weeks time and have several kits and projects amassed to keep me occupied on my sojourn.
Remember, Too much of a good thing is not necessarily a good thing!

I can get a few hours now and then to work on the layout. Last weekend was great, it was the first time I got to spend a full day “working” on it. I had my laptop set up on the work bench and I could check in here whenever I was waiting for paint / glue to dry. I can understand why retirement gets such good press.
The Model Railroad can mean many different things. I consider my involvement in the hobby to be working on the Model Railroad whether it’s on the layout, doing research or promoting the hobby.
although it’s a l o n g way from getting finished [if ever]…I still spend a hour or more on the layout every day or tweeking engines, cars, track, scenery etc.I’m 68,so i’m resigned to the fact that i’m never going to “finish” the layout .I’ve been working on this one since 1985.They keep comming out with new products, tecniques and improvements and my skills are always improving. So with me,it’s always 2 steps foward and 1 step back.
Having been medically retired after having a major heart attack and losing the use of my right hand I have become a full time modeler and railfan…Come to think of it life doesn’t get any better then that…[:D]
Two months ago, I could have put down ‘full time’, but suddenly this summer seems to be full of distractions, both personal and professional, so I’ll say that I usually try and get out to the garage at least three times a week. However, I’ve got a weeks worth of performing down on the Coast coming up as of this Friday, and when I get back, I’ll only have a little time between that and heading off to Colorado for a working vacation for a couple of weeks, so I think that by the time I get back, I’ll have fallen WAY behind on my summer plans. (However, I will have put in some time rail-fanning on the Durango Silverton line. does that count?)

I put part time even though the summer activities has made this a smaller part than what I can do in the winter.
I had fun the other day showing off my layout to the extended family during my kids birthday party, but I have not really spent a lot of time working on the RR.
I put when I get to it. That is actually doing some modeling. I read about it almost daily and there is this forum as well. But work on the layout comes and goes as time and money permits. Sometimes it’s daily and weekends and sometimes months go by. It is a hobby after all. The current layout is slated to come down this fall so I can properly fini***he basement. Then I will have about 700 sq ft for a new layout. vice 200 sq ft for the current one. How long this will take I don’t know, but then it’s the journey that’s important. Not that I will be totally without a layout, a bedroom came free this spring and I will have a small layout in there just to fool around with until the basement is ready.
Enjoy

I put down part time, but I think it less than that. For me, if I could, I would be out there everyday, but unfortunalty, with life and family, I can go a couple of weeks before I get out there. FInally got some things squared away at work and ready for a godo summer of train time…
But now, my biggest challenge is to find away to cool the gargae. It got mighty hot here in Phoenix. I work in a shop during the day in the heat so coming home and going back out in it is tough. If it stays too hot, I will probbaly start bringing in the rolling stock inside and working upgradeing parts and painting.
Best Regards
