If we have something we want to sell bad enough, we put it on eBay, but I have stuff I’m sure somebody can use, parts etc. And I know there are parts and such out there I can use. I’d love to find a dead 44 tonner in SP with a good shell, for example.
These type things don’t come up on eBay enough to make it worth watching like a hawk. Is there a model railroaders’ “Items wanted” site somewhere?
I have asked a few questions on this site, and always gotten informative answers, sometimes several different ones. Thanks, Dan
I wonder if Bergie would set up a swap shop forum, of course in todays world it would have to be a “At your own risk and we don’t accept the liability” kind of thing. Then again I think if one of us took advantage of someone else on this forum we would all here about.
I agree whole heartedly. On the four wheel drive sites I frequent, they have a similar area set up. It is all “At your own risk”, but I havedone well by just using common sense. First, try and get all the information possible, both as a seller or buyer. Second, if something seems even the least bit fishy, BAIL OUT!! Lastly, both sides should agree to ship COD. This is the big thing as far as I am concerned. You may not get exactly what you are after, but at least you will get something for your money! Using this system, I haven’t heard of anyone getting ripped off. People who send money then expect to get something aren’t always so lucky. And if someone has screwed someone else, then yes, it does get posted rather quickly, and sometimes vehemently! I personally would like to see a swap section, just so I could try to get more stuff that I don’t need!!
Good points, Fergus and Morpar
That would be a great site, a little “e-swap meet” Like I mentioned, most of us aren’t going to go to the bother to sell something we have unless we know someone is looking for it, and we’d probably part with it cheap or even or trade for something interesting, mainly to help out a fellow modeller. I know I would.
I’ve seen a few folks use this forum to try to find a source for, or locate some items and some responses have been that they have what was needed, and invited the seeker to contact them. I think thats cool, but I wouldn’t be comfortable using this forum to actually ask that of other modellers. It just seems like it wasn’t the purpose of this forum. So if there was one, perhaps an addition of such a “discussion” to the existing index, it would provide us that channel without diluting the purpose of the other discussions.
In addition to the responses above, what do others think? Thanks, Dan
