I agree, Chief - this is really cool, with all the posts and topics we’re seeing lately. And FWIW, i remember when it took months for a topic to move to page two!

It is nice to see the increased participation here as of late. A good sign for the hobby! I think that most folks find this to be a good place to come for answers to their questions if they’re new to the hobby, and a good place to visit regularly if they’re already in the hobby and want to share toy train information and experiences in a civil and friendly environment. A win-win situation for all participants, and for the hosts, as well.
You are all right. It is nice seeing how quickly you can learn something new. It’s great for getting ideas to improve what you have also. I even enjoy the banter between the North and South!

If I may say so, as a newbie, the polite and enthusiastic response I got from my enquiry ensured that I’ll be back regularly.
BTW is it okay to add topics on ANY toy train system? Only I couldnt wait to get back home to unwrap my new Lionel set so as I’m on vacation I went out and bought a TOMY toy train for the grand daughter to play with. Its a Thomas the Tank Engine system and its quite obvious that it will benefit greatly from some re-engineering.
I’ll keep you guys posted if anyones interested.

I agree that it is alright to post on any train set. I think we are all train enthusiasts first, guage is down the line. We mostly deal with O Guage, but touch on all. Many times, if someone asks about a different guage, other posters will try to help, but also offer that another web site might have more people familiar with that particular case.
BTW, When I had started up the Polar Express and fired off the whistle a few times at the Dillard’s Department Store, it really drew attention and inquires to purchase. This was just a static display with no other sets available. I think if Dillard’s and other major stores had some active displays, the Hobby would have a resurgence not seen since the late 40’s. After I did what I did at Dillard’s and the customers asked about the trains, the store got some in and quickly sold out.
Perhaps, Classic Toy Trains could put a free copy card in the sets that come out next year? That would certainly grow the business and grow the hobby from a Christmas tree set, to a year round adventure for many.

both this forum and www.modeltrainjournal.com have benefited greatly from the continued downward spiral of the OGR Forum. MTJ has doubled it’s membersip in teh last few months, spurred by a number of bannings at OGR.
So long as OGR continues to alienate its membership, both of the more inviting forums will continue to flurish.
Some forums–this one, for example–are akin to visiting a friendly neighbor’s home. Some others are more like visiting a rautious party or even a bawdy bar. Take a careful look at all of them over time and decide for yourself where you feel more comfortable. No need to knock any of the others if you’re secure–and mature–enough to make up your own mind, as most here are.
This forum is like our town’s diner - sitting there with a cup of joe, visiting a bit as people come in and out. I don’t understand criticizing another forum - what purpose does it serve - I like the other ones mentioned - their ‘atmosphere’ is different - as Allan eloquently noted - but … I guess I consider this a ‘big tent’ hobby.

dweimer is right: I really wish Lionel would listen and start getting train sets into major retailers at Christmas time WITH working displays to show customers what they can do. Lionel has shied away from this for years now and they really need to rethink their position for the long-term growth of the hobby. Are you listening Lionel???
It is funny you said that because I am going to write a letter to Bloomindales, and see if I can “borrow” some space for a layout. I have not decided wether it will be O or G, but I could have both. My grandmom used to work there, was there for 25 years. She knows most of the people there, so I have a good chance of getting through. I will see what set is available to demonstrate. This is a good time to have wireless internet, to show people this site, and see what wonderful people you all are. I tink it is good too how these topics can go from page 1 to page 2 in a matter of a few hours. Do you remember my first topic, Postwar, or TMCC?

I would have to agree that postings here are on the rise. It’s great to see info spread so freely as well as some fertilizer too! [:D] I 'm just happy that it seems all forums seem to be enjoying growth. As stated above there is something for everyone in all. I just assume to offer the choices and let the masses decide.
But since this is the CTT forum let me thanks the CTT folks for a nice little corner to wander into. It’s good to see the increased activity level.
Ah, yes, indeed! I remember when I first came here how few people posted in the CTT forum. It was a pretty boring place. The majority of my posts were made over in the Trains Magazine and Model Railroader forums. Now, I’m so busy reading topics and posting here that I don’t venture out nearly as much as I used to. Thanks guys for making this such a wonderful place and being such great friends!
