As some of you may know I signed up with the NMRA for my birthday which was last Friday for a two year subscription. They told me I would not recieve any thing until September ! [sigh] . When I asked if they could send me a magazine they agreed to. It came yesterday [tup] , the July issue , I have not had a chance to read it in detail only thumb through it quickly . I am still moving stuff back into the hobby room and trying to get organized [banghead] which is taking me longer than expected and is simply exhausting. Any way one thing that struck me right away is the difference between Model railroads pictures and Scale railroad pictures. Model Rail road pictures seem to be a much better qaulity. Is it only the July issue of scale pictures that are kind of drab or is it like this always ? By the way my hats off to Model railroad for doing such a great job on their pictures in the magizine , thanks.
I just received Scale Rails (SR) today and have already read MR. After browsing SR I have to disagree. I think both have great pictures. MR has improved tremendously in the last ten years, the time I was out of the hobby, and I attribute that to improved publishing technology. I was very surprised and pleased when I received my first SR a few months ago.
Look at the depth of field in both. Good macro photograph is very difficult. I have a macro lens on my digital camera and can’t duplicate either MR or SR quality. I hope I will be able to in the near future now that I have a layout in progress I can photograph.
Don’t get me started on lighting.
I am not discussing picture qaulity but color The picture indeed as you stated is very good . It just seems that the colors are drab. The articles I really enjoyed last night I had a chance to read some of the articles and found them to be very interesting and I was really enjoyed the interview with the extreme train guy and the article on the yard.
