Sunny and cool on The North Bluff.
The weather birds are all chirping about 5"-9" of white stuff Saturday night to Sunday night. They were way off the ball last time so I hope they are wrong again. [(-D]

Good morning all,
Work has been more busy that it should be. Pain 2 is still around and has the most experience of any there and yet did several dumb things she was not supposed to do and should have known better. Thing is there is a very short window where activity is not allowed and she does nothing almost all month except for then. Ugh. Taking the day off so I do not have to deal with her… Finally found out why no fans were at the 500 last year from a fairly reliable source who is credible on most of what is reported. I think some people take the track for granted. One day they may wake up and it will be gone and those same people will be wondering what happened. I got an email showing the Mini shirt. I can tell they do not think it will happen as the design is very very plain and generic.
On the brighter side, congrats to Fifedog and family and prayers the newest addition will be home soon. Some snow here but not much. I hope everybody has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Isn’t that interesting! February of last year the same thing happened to Lady Firestorm and me, she got the flu first and gave it to me. (Wouldn’t take it back either!)
Chills, temperatures, weakness, typical flu symptoms, made us miserable but didn’t knock either one of us on our butts. Four days with generous doses of DayQuil, NyQuil, and in my case shots of “Virginia Gentleman” and it was over. We’ve been wondering the same thing, was it COVID before all the alarms were sounded? There’s posters on the “Trains” Forum wondering the same thing who had it at the same time we did.
And that’s the first time I’ve had the flu in 20 years. The last bout knocked me out for two days, really knocked me out!
And having been in the military I’ve gotten ALL the shots! You name it, I got it!
Same here, chills, temperatures, for one day, weakness, typical flu symptoms plus a non-productive chough. I did Tamiflu I had left over from my China med bag. Kicked me hard for four days and the cough was hard for about eight weeks. I gave it to wifey. I still have what they call long-haul cough to this day? About 3 or 4 months later I gave blood, they said they checked for antibodies but if I had them they were to low to count and that I may or may not of had it???
Aloha. Sunny and cold - but warmer than yesterday - I sure appreciate the sun. As Kev says, we’re supposed to get 6-9 inches Saturday night. Hope they are wrong. Glad the princess is home, Fife, and the baby is being looked after. Today is turning out to be a nice day of work - which means I can get things done without too many Zoom meetings! No big plans for the weekend.
Mornin’ all!
Sunshine, windy and very cold outside. Was 8° this morning at 6:45 when I got the boys up. It’s up to 18° now.
Very worried. I haven’t heard from my friend Lucy in 3 weeks. Just called her home/shop a little while ago, and the numbers been disconnected. Not sure what to do, Linda suggests I go by her home/salon. I don’t know.
Got up to the attic for a bit last night, definitely colder up there than earlier in the week, about 42°. Cut the end board (an 8" wide piece that fits on the other side of the back vertical joists), fitted it, then pulled the boards up to install a couple of seam supports. The width in the wide section was 18½", just enough to get some deflection when you stepped on the seam between the boards. Plus there was about a 10" length of the board where I fitted it around the center angled joist - although it’s unlikely we’d be stepping there, it really deflected down when I put any pressure on it. So I put in a piece running from the front to the angled joist to support it. Anyway, got those in, put the boards back down, and I’m ready to screw them into the supports. But I couldn’t do that because it was midnight, and I got started late because…
Rutgers basketball was playing Michigan State last night. We had started out with a bang, going 6-0 then 7-1, only to get a number of injuries and go on an 0-5 losing streak. Anyway, we beat Indiana on the road on Sunday and hosted Michigan State last night. Now, we had never beaten Michigan State, going back to 1970, with an 0-11 record against them. And the game turned out to be very close, we were only able to beat them by 30 points, 67-37. Phew, squeaked that one out! So it was enjoyable to watch and enjoyable to talk about it afterwards on the Rutgers boards.
Anyway, let’s finish this day off.
Have a good one!
Man, I’d have that checked, if you haven’t done so already! Forgive me if you have, but I worry about you guys! That doesn’t sound good.
Happy Friday,
A busy day at work and I am ready for bed now. Yes, I had my fair share of shots during my military career. And yes, I am 46, in great health, and not in any risk category.
Have a great weekend,
Joe
Mornin’ boys. Sunny and 14 (but it doesn’t feel that bad) along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Will get snohizo tomorrow.
I’ve been driving Middle Princess back and forth to hospital, but only she gets to enter. Little one off O2, eating well, and very animated. The nurses love him. Hard to be a grandparent in these times, and I only have contempt for those who’ve created this “new normal”.
On a much lighter note, Youngest is here for the weekend. She’ll be putting finishing touches in the nursery.
Unflattering article in the local fish wrap this week, concerning the scenic railroad. Not opening up anytime soon me thinks.
Aloha and happy Saturday. Lots of snow due overnight - the bride wants me to drive the youngest to his job and pick him up because of the pending weather. Last time this came up, I blew this off and his brother ran the car into a fire hydrant. This time, I may listen to her. Maybe I’ll even try to get ready to do our taxes later.
Glad the middle princess has you as a driver, Fife. Hope the nursey is all set for the baby.
Too bad the article was not positive. The IL Railway Museum has been trying all sorts of interesting ‘drive through’ things.
Uh-huh. Our local, which used to be excellent, seems to be slowly but surely following the herd and turning itself into a house organ for a certain political party which shall remain unnamed.
Well, if they lose business then just like the others they’ve only themselves to blame.
Warmed to 34. Off to get Caddy from dealer. If not fixed this time, GM says replace radio [screen and all]. Should have been done earlier as 5th time in. Get free loaner. Just the trip to Raleigh. Incorporate errands with it. Then finish painting shelves for Wifey’s work. Owner wanted me to do.
Stay warm and well.
I’m in the high risk group due to my age. Calif. goverment is so screwed up that getting a shot is near impossible. The few that do have a all day wait. I have medicare advantage but seeing your dr. is impossible too. There is a recall petition for the govenor going on that is getting nearly enough signatures to get on the ballot and he is worried, He has presidential dreams.
Good morning,
Yesterday I cleaned out the north side of the wood shed and stocked the front porch. Then because it was nice out I went down to the creek and cut a large Gator load of wood to use as weight. Will split and stack it latter. Dang near did not get up the hill to get out of the creek. But after the second try,I made it. [:O]
Man the weather guessers are all over the place on this one. Every TV station has the sky falling but when I check the NOAA site looks like nothing again. So it looks like Doug and I will just have to wait and see. We have been babysitting the Grandpup for the daughter. (They are showing their house this weekend) Big dumb puppy. She sure likes all the room here but don’t listen to anything she does not want to. She has taken over my chair and the Cat would just as soon have her gone. [(-D]
I know a lot of you are wanting to get “the” flu shot.
But, I’ve read some negative reports from various people in medicine and virology that makes me want to hold off for a while. I’m over 60 years old, so, I’m not in a “high risk” group.
One of the reports has seen indications that if you are asymptomatic, or already have the virus in you, the vaccine, instead of preventing the virus, will give it a green light.
From what I’ve heard there’s been a very small minority of people who had an adverse reaction to the flu shot, basically typical of any kind of vaccination on a large scale.
I’m not concerned myself, when the shot’s available I’m getting one. I’m 67, just so everyone knows.
I just used the “Google Machine” to research the reactions, I found out nothing that disturbs me. Great tool, that “Google Machine.”
I am devastated.
I swung by my friend Lucy’s home this afternoon - there were a bunch of cars there. When I rang the doorbell, the guy who answered it told me they had just had a funeral service for her earlier in the day. Apparently she passed away a few weeks ago, but they were only able to get the funeral service in today.
She got hit hard by Covid in her lungs, they speculate she was susceptible because of the chemicals she was exposed to in her salon. Once she was released she ended up in a rehab facility in Lincoln Park. Somehow she got an infection there, ended up back in the hospital, and that’s what ended up killing her. This really hits me hard, because that’s what happened to my dad in 2010: he was at a rehab facility after a bad fall back in late 2009.
I’m back home, we’re all just at a loss right now. She’s been doing my hair for over 30 years, I’ve known her longer than that because she did my mom’s hair. She and her husband never had children, so she treated my 2 boys like gold. She held them as babies, and has been doing their hair since we came back from Virginia. She had also hired Tyler to do product photography for her cosmetics line. When my dad was incapacitated, she’d go to my parents’ house to do his hair.
God this sucks.
Spank I am so sorry to hear that, my sincere condolances to you and your family.
You are right, losing a close friend really, really sucks. Happened to me twice last year. It’s still unbelieveable.
But what can you do? In my case I did the Marine thing: Take the hit, shed a tear, square yourself away and continue the march. Proceed with the mission, which is life itself.
[angel]
Fife - I am glad the baby is coming along well.
DJ - Sorry for your loss.
DJSpanky - sympathies on your loss, amigo.
