Jeffrey's Trackside Diner For April 2025

How do they do this?

Stacked Logging Michigan by Edmund, on Flickr

I guess it is a ‘macho’ photo-op. How practical would it really be, though. Are there brakes on that skidder? I think not, poor horses!

Sure have to trust in the strength of your chains, though…

Another week of cold, rain mixed with snow. There have been exactly two days here when one could be outdoors without a coat. We still have a reserve of firewood. Fired the stove back up again last week. For the cats, of course!

Cheers, Ed

Good morning

Up early having coffee, getting ready to put the done stamp on that floor. I’m not wanting to do another one any time too soon, if ever

Thanks for the kind words mdmasc91, Paul, & N Scale Train Boy. Another big smile on my face

I’m remembering that photo Ed. That one in particular always deserves another look.
How have you been doing my brother?
Are you looking forward to sprucing up outdoors, once the nice weather of Spring arrives?
I’ll bet your especially excited about getting that beautiful G scale layout up and running soon.
Man, that almost seemed to come out of no where last year, and hope to see more of it this year my friend :+1:

Well, I’m gonna go brew another K-cup, and look for another logging contribution over coffee here.

The video’s a bit long, but hope you can all still enjoy it :slightly_smiling_face:

Good afternoon Diners. A sunny day. A Lunch Special please, Flo. I am hungry.
The house is a ‘bombsite’ with painters and decorators. Hopefully it will all be finished tomorrow.

Daughter and daughter-in-law are visiting this evening. A ‘girlie evening’. I shall keep out of the way.

Hi TF, thoroughly enjoyable to watch and a very nice Tribute to the Logging Railroads of the Sierra Mountain Range.

Whist I was watching I thought, I can see the appeal of Narrow Gauge Railways, their Locos and Operations.
I checked-out MR August 2024 and Sam Foster’s ‘Owl Cove Lumber’ Layout.

Again, thank goodness someone recorded all of this footage.

Paul.

You know what, TF. You’re right! I’ve got a beautiful Aristo-Craft NYC Hudson that hasn’t turned a wheel! She needs to get out and stretch her legs!

Not to mention this little brute!

Good morning, diners. I’ll have eggs, bacon, and coffee this morning, Chloe.

It’s a beautiful morning on the plains – 29°, sunny, and birds everywhere.

I think my wife and I have finally turned the corner on whatever we caught weeks ago. We both seem to feel better. We’ve single-handedly kept the cough medicine companies in a profitable situation for several weeks.

For anyone who cares, April 3 is National Burrito Day! I think that sounds good for later today.

Have a great day, everyone.

Thanks all for the welcome.
I see Spam is on the menu. All the items on the menu board in the Diner on my layout feature Spam.
Well I do have some news. The last model railroad hobby shop in our city has closed. It was a small shop but had been around for a long time.
TF, we had a racoon stay the winter in the garage. it was hibrinating under the floor in a locker. Surprised it could get in there as the space beside the chimney is very small. Anyway I think it may be gone now as we haven t heard it for a few weeks I will seal up the space once I am sure it is gone.
May be able to start some yard clean up later next week. I am finding I just don’t have the energy I used to so will be a slow process. Getting old isn’t fun.
It is about 35F here today and cloudy. I will go for a walk later to stretch my legs a little.

You can say that again, CNCharlie. Beginning of last October, I fell backwards off a small Stepladder and Fractured a Rib. It took 4 months (E.O. January) before it finally eased-up on giving me Grief.

You don’t Bounce so easily, when you are old - but I bounced-back, like you have.

Check this out!

Hope my end results modeling is like that :ok_hand:

Some how didn’t notice those light blue well car double stacks last Fall Ed?
How could I’ve missed that? You ain’t holding out on me my brother, …are you?

NICE!
I’m patient, but anticipating that G scale Hudson of yours sometime this Spring

Charlie, I’m glad you’re back with us Kid!
You know that raccoon that survived another season with you in the garage, is just as excited about Spring as you are.
He’s out looking for another mate, and will be back, with more Kids in your back yard later on this late Spring, early Summer.
Last year you remember, someone said, WHAT? he’s got your kits in your back yard

That was funny stuff Charlie. You raise a good crowd around here!
Good to have you back my friend, and I’ll always have your back :+1:

Finished the floor and got the day off tomorrow my brothers :ok_hand:
Just what do you sappose I’m gonna be doing tomorrow?

There’s no model railroad choo choo emoji here, or the whistling guy, or bang your head in the wall guy.
Okay, already did enough of all that this Winter.

Take it easy gentleman :slightly_smiling_face:
