Mornin, it is really wet and only 9c today, BUT! I will get out for a good scoot today as I have been off for about ten days letting the body catch up.
Our neighbour has one of these to cut his lawn, it is absolutely silent and it never stops, it is always mowing.
First year my son went to University in Ottawa he had a 9th floor suite in residence. Year two he was really flush with cash from all his movie work and rented a house off campus. I think he got lonely and let two of his friends move in second semester. The third year a Dad of one of the friends he let move in bought the house for his son and his son still lives there. When my son rented the house he bought a bed, dresser, desk, desk chair and a 75 inch TV. He graduated in 2021, got on a plane and came home leaving the stuff he bought for his friend. Four years later my sons friend is getting married and my son and his wife fly back for the wedding and are staying at the same house. My son walks into his old bedroom and everything is exactly as it was the day he left four years ago. Except the bedding had been washed.
My daughter is going for brunch with her old boss, I think a little poaching job offer is going on. Both my kids had jobs 6 months before graduating University and both have already switched employers because of incredible offers. My daughter may be going back to her old job.
Good evening Diners. Today at the hospital went well. (Thanks York1 John) The doctor was pleased with the progress made. Next time will be on Friday. A scan on my throat. I do not know what to expect. We shall see.
Flo. Just a soft drink of orange juice. Taking granddaughter to Brownies. I’ll have a large Oban whisky when I return at 8.30pm.
Got the HTC-R Trucks installed on the unit, just going to finish coloring those in, then get the front Pilot and front HTC-R trucks installed, then it’s painting!
David, it’s good to know your appointment went well; you are in our thoughts and prayers.
On the layout, the curved rock casting is a success, and has had grey washes applied. Waiting to see if the dried result blends in reasonably with the older neighbouring rocks. I did touch them up a bit with the new colour, so it should work out OK; besides, as I’ve learned, planting trees close by and in front of the rocks hides them somewhat!
So, I just ballasted a half mile of track and according to my Garmin only burned 106 calories! Some workout that was.
David, glad things went well at the hospital for you. I wouldn’t mind a snort of that Oban if you don’t mind while I try and figure out why Maintenance-of-way jobs required such little energy.
Good Morning Diners. Flo, thanks to Bear’s video, can you please bring me some bacon. A whole platter of it please. Oh, and a little apple juice to wash it down with. Thanks.
Soccer game last night. (what’s new?) Anyway, it was a winner take all game that decided the conference championship and my daughter’s team won! I haven’t seen the girls on her high school team play with as much energy and intensity before. It was great. A lot like watching her club team. They ended up winning 5-0 and my daughter scored one of the goals.
Have a service award dinner tonight for work. It’s a great gesture, but couldn’t have come during a worse week for us. Ton of stuff going on this week between work for both my wife and I, soccer, family visiting, and graduation for my youngest. It’s one of those weeks that takes 7 days to get through, but ages you several years!
Flo, my platter of bacon is gone. Can I get a refill?
Good morning Diners. A large coffee and blueberry muffin please, Chloe.
Mike. Congratulations to your daughter’s soccer team.
My middle grandson used to play soccer all the time and won a number of awards. Then he saw a basketball game. Newcastle Eagles basketball team now coach him.
Oldest grandson is visiting after school. A request for me to cook a Full English breakfast for dinner? tonight.
I have a zoom meeting with the Ocean Liner Society this evening.
My cool day started raining early yesterday evening. Some other member perhaps sent this my way. Lol
It’s been steady all night into the morning here, so maybe I’ll get one of my beloved rain days today. I’m hoping all this precipitation will help with the fires up north, as it seems to be heading that way.
Hi John. Yes, letting cedar weather gray is the way to go. Who wants to create the continued maintenance/expense of pressure washing, and staining every 5-6 years.
Contractors pay good money for weatherd barn wood for remodeling projects, and looks just as good outside as it does inside.
Even with the outrageous price of cedar these days, I’m thinking treated is the better choice for a fence post anyway.
Replacing a rotten fence post is easily said, but as you know, what a bearcat that job really is. A friend of mine many years ago asked me, (“why are you working so hard”?) “Dig down around the cement surounding the post 8-10 inches, sinch a cable around it, and jack it out of the ground with a cherry picker”. Man!, that made life easier!
That same friend told me to quit working so hard mixing cement to set fence posts, and pour the cement in dry. When turning my head sidways like a confused dog, he said (“Lets have this conversation”.) “Have you ever left a bag of cement on the garage floor, and it turned rock hard”? “Trust me, the ground has more moisture to excrete than the cement floor does”. I’ve learned so much from my past friend Chuck through the years. As he had from me about some things as well. Perhaps that could be how they came up with the term Tradesmen
Morning diners, coffee and a full English breakfast please, Flo
Doing some cleanup in the yard today as I had a really bad storm last night the house lost power at around 9:30 in the middle of my next post and didn’t come back on until 1:45 AM so lots to do
Might do some scouting for a building large enough for a model railroad club too maybe a warehouse or something
Aside from that I’m doing some sketches of what the entryway of Norwalk will look like with full CB&Q GP9s on static display like the Welcome To Omaha Kenific Park in Omaha Nebraska
Thanks David. It’s quite an accomplishment. They celebrated 30 years of girls soccer at our high school this year. This is only the 3rd girls soccer conference championship earned by our school. The team they beat has won the conference championship every year since 2016.
Good morning all from a brightening West Coast where it is 12c/HOC.
Mike , cograt’s on your daughters big win. It is staggering to think of all the hours parents can spend at kid’s sports and/or music lessons. For my son it was hockey, golf and drums. He is now a highly paid executive and he still plays golf. He also is President of an organization that is connected with Hockey Canada. It is a volunteer position for him but he has a paid staff to run the show. Him taking on the leadership roll with the Hockey group is the most rewarding thing for me after all the 1000s of hours spent at the hockey rink while he grew up. It’s kinda like seeing if you can grow your own Seafoam from seeds and end up with a bumper crop.
My daughter did competitive swimming, golf and was very involved in equestrian activities. She plays the piano, cello and clarinet, however only plays our piano now on a regular basis and I love it when she is home and fills the house with music.
With the 100s and 100s of feet of fencing on the property fixing rotten post is top of the list for least favourite jobs. Most of the time the post is so rotten I can just scoop out the rot and slide a new post into the old cement. The odd time the cement has to go I just dig a hole next to the old cement and roll it over into the hole and put in a new post and I do just pour the cement in dry but will throw a bucket of water on it to give it a head start. I leave the old ball of cement close enough that the new cement bonds to it, thus getting a mega ball.
Do you have the club ready to go? If you are starting a business you usually get the plan/process/finances rolling before you start looking for the real estate. Looking for the real estate first is unproductive.
Best get going, another day of contractors shaking the house.
I mean, I already own a few (10-15 Acres to be exact maybe more) acres of land from the Norwalk Railway Preservation Society and the Norwalk Railway Museum that are usable but just sit vacant I’m looking for something to occupy the land in the meantime but I will do that when I decide to launch the club
