Jeffrey's Trackside Diner, July 2018

I seem to recall that the Lion said he was going on vacation. I could be wrong.

Dave

Morning diners.

I have an unwanted day off today. My truck is at my mechanics with some kind of electrical problem. He told me I was lucky I made it over there. The truck was running from the battery only with no charge going to it.

It’s parts or payments with vehicles. Lately it’s been a lot of part payments. It may be time to start thinking of a new truck. It’s nice my son works as finance manager for a major car dealership, takes the hunt out of the equation.

Garry Tennessee and Kentucky for the Diner in September would be fine with me… I’m easy.

Steven that was a good idea to check in with Lion with a PM. Sometimes a common-sense solution is the last thing I think of. It’s nothing new with my old B ticker I’ve always somewhat been that way.

I’m glad John took care of that for us. It would take me forever to look for lion through all those posts with my smartphone.

Dave you say you may remember lion said he was going on vacation. Maybe he went to the Himalayas to help with the endangered snow leopard that’s on TV every ten minutes. If he did I hope he gives us a full report when he returns

Good Evening, Everyone!

Another quiet day is slowly coming to an end. The weather was nice, quite sunny, but not too hot, with a northwesterly breeze providing a refreshing crispness.

The mail woman brought a long awaited package containing a Faller set of etched gullies and manhole covers to add some detail to the streets of Talheim. A quick dab of white glue and some fiddling around to find the right position and the job was done! Pictures to follow later!

I am also waiting for my order of figures to come, so Talheim will no longer be a ghost town. They should arrive tomorrow or the day after. Installing them will be the final job on trhe layout this year, as I have already overspent my this yoewar´s model railroading budget. Not by much, though, but I just don´t want to dig into the getaway fund. There are more unplanned expenses coming up. As it seems, my office, which I bought in March this year, is already giving up its ghost. I have send the distributer a message, but I doubt he they will take it back and refund the money. So purchasing a new one will most likely eat up next years budget as well!

That sucks!

Regard Bro´ Elias, I remember him writing about a time off, but that must have been in a post around March or even earlier. His last post was on May 22nd.

Time to watch some old movies!

CU tomorrow!

Afternoon All!

Hobby Front: To quote a very well known nursey rhyme: “Rain, rain go away. Come back some other day.” We had some fairly strong to severe thunderstorms come through last night and make a mess of roads at the ranch. At this rate, this is going to take forever to get the layout pieces moved. On the positive side, the maintainance person at the senior living facility where my parents live let me have a nice looking piece of 1/2" plywood. (9.5" wide by almost 6’ long.) Plan to use it for building the new section for the mainline. (A pair of tracks and the bridge for roadway. Plan to reuse the bridge I bashed. For those that don’t remember it, it is three Atlas chord bridges with a road on it rather than track. I think I will end up shortening it as I don’t think I have 54" of clearance.)

Dew point 82 degrees, meaning if it gets that cold, there will be dew on the grass. It may not get that cold tonight. However the weathermen are not brain surgeons. Today one said “surely but slowly we will have a sudden drop in the temperatures” Huh? How does the slowly and sudden work?

I was thinking about posting about Br Elias too. I know nothing; but the good news is there is no bad news on the Abbey’s facebook page about him.

Edit Something interesting for a change on Facebook

Back to our Colorado theme, if you are going to Durango to ride on a diesel (yuk)

You might as well see Mesa Verde

Evening diners

It’s fireworks night in Bloomington Minnesota. For some reason they do it on the 3rd of July which is OK with me. Tomorrow it’s going to be one of those hundred and five degree days with the nasty humidity again…(YUK)

We arrived at our spot early and got all our snacks and goodies I don’t like crowds and traffic. We go around down south and come back up north to our spot to avoid it all.

Here’s my contribution to the Colorado theme. It’s the only one I have. Honestly the picture is not from Colorado but it is on the Colorado River. It is a Casino in Laughlin Nevada built to look like a river boat. It was a great place to visit to vacate the late spring snow storms.

Thank You, Ulrich!

I wish everyone, no matter where you’re from, a safe and happy Holiday!

Cheers, Ed

Thanks Ulrich, you’re the best. Happy 4th to you as well.

I will repeat Ulrich’s message -

HAPPY 4th of JULY to all you great people south of the border!![Y][Y][Y]

Dave

Actually, if I were of Roman Catholic denomination, I´d have reason to celebrate not only America´s Birthday, but also my patron saint´s name day - St. Ulrich, Bishop of Augsburg, who had a decisive part in winning the battle against the onstorming huns (= Hungarians, Magyars) during the battle of the Lechfeld in 955 AD, thus saving Christianity in western Europe.

Yep I read you Dave

He definitely took care of us both didn’t he.

A wish of Happy Independence Day to all the Canadians on the 1st.

A wish of Happy Independence Day to all the Americans on the 4th.

Ulrich took care of us both.

I say Happy Independence Day to Ulrich over the pond, east of the ocean… Thanks for being such a great friend! [;)]

(edit) up late tonight. A little simultaneous posting going on here. It’s all good.

Morning Ulrich… late for me but probably the prime of your day over there in Germany

I’m a little Sleepless tonight. Although a few points on your last post did ring a bell I’m going to have to research that one a little bit.

Earlier today I did research, out of my curiosity, Brother Elias that honestly I never heard of. After a little research he did remind me of the positive fundamentals of Dalai Lama. Not to go into a lot of detail, but when all you can find is good from something ( for an example). I found myself taking a glass and a piece of paper, scooping up the creepy spider in my house and letting him free outside instead of killing him. That may be a little extreme but if more people in the world could just grasp a little bit of that…,just a little. The world would definitely be a much better place.

That’s funny bear I’m hitting the rack

Funny that you write this! We used to just kill any insect that made its way into our realm, but - without even thinking deeply about it, we have been saving them from this fate, lately. Maybe it is because of the number of those little pests is declining rapidly in recent years, which has a tremendous effect on the bird population here.

Good morning … Happy 4th of July.

I was actually able to post this photo into the Show Me thread. It is in my old Photobucket account. 4th of July parade.

Morning Diners…still lurking & kicking…

It appears that most of You missed The Lion’s post back in May explaining what He plans on doing for the next couple months. This should explain, if it works…

…Quote from Lion May 14…

There ARE LIONS here, even if they have been hiding for a while.

Me see in MR that there is a Toy Train Exhibit in Eau Clare on the 7th & 8th of July. LION PLANS TO ATTEND. Hope to see some MR peeps there.

Maybe I should put a stuffed LION on my shoulder so that visitors might recokgnize me.

After that I plan to go up to Duluth for a few nights.

Might then drive back by Lake Metagoshe, and Cartwright ND which has some old railroad bridges and tunnels. Impressive, but never used. Grape Norfin was going to move their mane lion south but then the fed came by and created Lake Sakakawea where GN wanted to build the rest of their tracks.

I’ll show pictures when I get back. Of course that is two months from now.

ROAR

Take Care, All [:D] Frank

Morning diners,

I normally do the same thing when I find lizards in the house. Instead of glass and paper I use a plastic bowl and cup since they move around a lot.

Happy 4th of July Everyone! We have a few houses around here that are hanging up American flags.
