I nearly slept through it!

I actually slept between my last post in the old diner at 10:-something PM, and just posting the opening now!

I have played “insomniac” since we changed the clocks, geting an average of just 3 hours of sleep a night if that, and That doesn’t always come at once!

Sleeping pills {3 kinds not all at once} just rattel in my tum-tum, and produce no desired long term results.

But somehow I slept -what-4 magical hours!!! together!

I was nearly [|)] on the job!

Today’s word:

ye

PRONUNCIATION:
(for definite article: thee, for pronoun: yee) http://wordsmith.org/words/ye.mp3

MEANING:
definite article: The.
pronoun: You.

ETYMOLOGY:
For definite article: Alteration of Old English þe (the). Earliest documented use: before 12th century.
For pronoun: From Old English ge. Earliest documented use: before 13th century.

NOTES:
The article ‘ye’ is an archaic spelling of our modern ‘the’. The article was earlier spelled with the character thorn þ in the Old English alphabet: þe. Because of the similarity of shapes, eventually printers began to use the letter y to represent the character thorn þ. Nowadays, the word ‘ye’ is used to give an old-fashioned appeal in naming, such as: Ye Olde Bookshoppe.
The pronoun ‘ye’ is a plural of ‘thou’ (you, singular), but these days it is used for both plural and singular.

USAGE:

When the dung hits the fan, Barry tries to get his family back to the United States. Molly chooses that time to have ye old relationship ta

Good Morning!

Galaxy - welcome to the club! I woke up at 2am and have been up since. My back is yelling curses at me for what I did yesterday. I am not going to move much today!

Thanks for operning this month´s diner for us!

May 1st is a public holiday here, so it´ll be fairly quiet. Last night was also Walpurgis night - the night when witches are said to assemble on the Brocken Mountain, the highest peak in the Harz Mountains. I asked Petra how her flight back on the broom was and she didn´t think it was funny! Well, she must have been away last night, as she slept in this morning!

Chloe, I´ll have a big breakfast today and make everything Barry-sized! Bacon & eggs, buttered toast, jams, and a tall glass of OJ, not to forget the coffee in an IV bag, if you please …

CUL Folks!

Ulrich it is now 4:15 AM and I am goign to TRy to go back and sleep more. IF I get 3 hours a night I am lucky, but I’m also getting exhausted.

MAY First is A day for Flowers for your lady loves over here, though I think THAT issue is now just a memory of days long ago…I don’t think to many “do” May day now.

CAREFULL NOW, YOU DO WANT DINNER LATER DON’T YOU?

[%-)]

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I’ll have my usual gigante cup of coffee with boo coo cream, please.

i hope our insomniacs can get some rest. I’m sure it is needed. I’ve often wondered if lack of sleep accelerates the aging process, etc.

Ken: From what you describe, it sounds like the owner needs to clearly define the division of responsibilities. Often in the business environment, sales trumps other functions, so unless Paul tells Dave to stay out of your turf, he is likely to think he’s justified to meddle in your jurisdiction. At least, that’s what it sounds like is happening.

We’re supposed to have a warm up this weekend. Since it’s May already, it sounds like a plan.[^o)]

Well, I’d love to stay and chat, but gotta go to work.

I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Me too. I had a tooth pulled yesterday, and I wasn’t supposed to eat anything chewy or warm. So, I had a diet of ibuprofen, an antibiotic and ice cream. I usually sleep on that side, so it was not comfortable. To top it off, painters showed up at oh-dark-thirty and started slinging ladders on the roof of my bedroom.

Oh, wel, I did get the last of the phototransistors wired up, and now the grade crossing protection project for Moose Bay is complete. I ran trains around for a while, just to watch the lights flashing and the gates going up and down. I even tried making a short video. I’ll have to do it again, as I had the room music on and it interfered with the locomotive sounds.

Happy May Day, everybody.

Galaxy … You did a great job starting the May Diner.

I just posted several photos in WPF of my streetcars in action in the City of Heartland. If you are interested, take a look .

LION does not recall much sleep last night either. Him was at a meeting of the Stark County Zoning Bored from 3 pm until 8 pm. On the agenda was a new wind farm for Stark County. As you might imagine there was a vocal opposition present, but the speakers were evenly split 22 for and 23 against. Problem was this meating was not to fashion a new zoning law (That was done 3 years ago – when nobody attended). Today’s agenda was to approve a request to build from a company that has already complied with all of the county regulations.

Motion passed 6-2, it now goes to the full County Commission, and then to the State Public Service Commission.

After the meeting the LION had Lake Tang Ting Shrimp : ) , him then went home (30 minute drive) read a bit about the WWII in Italy, and turned off the light. Him then remained awake most of the night thinking about the meeting. In the morning him got out of bed and wrote a nice letter to the newspaper.

Next Project : a new internet router for the Abbey. We are looking at a $700.00 device.

ROAR

Yawwwwwwn. Pardon me, slept through the move. Must have been the rocking on the rails. Good Morning, all. Where are we this month?

Extra strong coffee with a pinch of coal dust, please.

Cheers! [C):-)] Rob

Hey diners,

It’s Amtrak’s birthday [bday] today of 44 years. Opening on May 1, 1971.[:D]

Mornin’ everyone!

Zoe, I’ll have a bowl of organic granola and a large pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee to start the day!

Galaxy, thanks for starting the new diner for us this month. Your Mark Twain quote is one my sister the world traveler has up on her refrigerator. Very true that!

Contractor was here early this morning. We got a couple more pieces of the stored siding from the cache down celler. He had already loaded up a pickup full of stuff to be taken to the landfill before that. He should have the siding back installed today and most of the facia board replaced today. He told me the guys will be there tomorrow to put a swirl plaster design on the ceiling. He will finish painting it Monday and Tuesday. The carpet should be installed Tuesday Afternoon… Progress is being made! He also told me a couple neighbors who where out walking thier dog yesterday right before he left stopped over to oogle at the new window and the work he was doing…

I’ll be getting more STUFF done for the convention and the upcoming MLK Scholarship Dinner today.

Catch you all later!

Here are photos I took when we rode Amtrak in Colorado a few years ago.

Those are pretty good pictures Garry! I appreciate it.

Evening Dinners

Flo, [B] please

Been Beat Today from all the stress. Main thing has been $ worries. I have not caught a break this year as far as unplained for bills. April should have been a get a head month with me having 5 pay periods. But with 2 car repair bills this month to the tune of $432.00 sure hurt! I could not pay my wifes health premium on time, it will have to wait till next week.

UP 831 Problem is Paul is not the owner, if he was Dumb Dave would have been canned a year ago. Real problem is Marv (82) and Nancy (72). Dumb Dave has worked with them on and off for 15 years. With the stuff Dumb Dave has done, I am 90% sure Marv would be happy to let him go! Dave lies about the hours he works, does not deposit money on time ($700.00 deposit was 9 days late) and I have caught him giving away stuff not on the customer ticket so he make a higher Spiff! You don’t steal from Marv!

Real problem is Marv’s Wife Nancy, she remembers Dumb Dave as he was not what he is now. She thinks Dave is great! She is all so not right any more but she is 72 so that I understand! So like most of us guys, Marv does not want to hear it either! [(-D]

Far as Dumb Dave beating me in sales, well sometimes. But, I have a better Profit % so in the long run we are even or I may be just a tad a head.

Later, Ken

I turned 72 April 4.

My weed eater quit, I think my dad gave it to me when he moved to a 55 + community so it was really old but a good one, it had a chord.

I went to the Walmart site and 99% now are battery, I found one with a battery and a chord For $84, I decided to order it but by that time it was time for bed.

In the morning rrswede on CTT Coffeepot provided a link to a Toro 51480 on ebay for $62 to $70 it has a chord, no battery and charger which I really didn’t want or want to pay for.

I googled it to see what I could find out about it and discovered Home Depot had it for $ 50, even Walmart was $62.

I went to bullitin stuffing and stopped at

Hi Dennis,

It could be cheaper and online only at HD because it could be a model closeout for them. HD may just want to get rid of them to make way for better selling models.

Derek

well,
On sleeping I slept fairly well last night, got those 4 hours I mentioned earlier.

Then went back to bed this morning for a “nap” and slept another whole 5.5 hours! I have been waiting for the catchup sleep to hit me and now maybe it has. I also slept from 6:20-8pm tonight, for an after-dinner nap and HOPE i haven’t OUT slept myself for the night. I usually play catch up sooner after a serious insomnia attack than this…We changed the clocks 2 months ago it took 2 months for me to cathch up…

~WEll the computer laptop is on its way.WE will now have to get a wireless router, and MOH says “well I can set one up in a jiffy, i did for {a client}”

~I said “the hard part is password protecting it well” GET THIS: MOH said “oh, well I DON’T KNOW how to passsword protect one, I only set it up for {the client}”

~DOH!@!! {DOuble} DOH! as Homer simpson would say!!!

~Well, I never, and WON’T, with us being packed in here every 20’ like sardines,be un[rotected! I know of at least 4 other wifis in here and only one is NOT protected and secure.I don’t want to be the second.

well, thats about it for me.

Just waiting for the new computer. and a few othjer ordered things. I think I have to once again place myself on a moratorium agianst purchasing stuff, especially online. SInce the situation here , I have been “filling in” with shopping online for the void i experience. and that is NOT good. at least not for the checkbook. It also adds to the “horder” situation.

SPeaking of HOARDING It is now official- I CANNOT any longer GET INTO THE TRAIN ROOM! I HAVE TO TEAR IT APART first and DO something in there…I actually think i will dismantle the train layout “table”,t o make room in there.

Thre wasn’t really room in there before I PUT the train layout in there in 2006 {?} already? Where DOES time fly?

it may only be 3.5feet x 5

well, still up, I see no one’s been in since 3 horus ago. I must smell again.

Been perusing the hotels , we are going to a celtic festival {KILT WEARING YIPPEE!} and the place we stayed at last year is now $149! PER NIGHT and was nothign special, so NOT this time.

PRoblem IS when you read reviews for hotels, all you get are wankers complaining about this nad that. We had a bad time at check in there last time but had NOTHING to do with the hotel…it was the online bookign had not notified the HOTEL of the reservation. fortunately they had a room for us.

WE now try to find the price online, then call them directly to get the reservations that way we KNOW they should have the reservation. and ask for email confirmation…

two days may still cost us $300 yet. I will have to confer with MOH aobut the rooms as MOH IS PICKY. A {decent} hotel room is a hotel room-at least in our price range. They afre all basically the same…

GOt confirmation the computer is on its way, hope it is worth it.

Ordered some stuff form AMazon, its on its way too, and finally decided to try the PRIME for the 30 day trial,…now watch i won’t order another thing form them till xmas!

well, time at midnite here to try to sleep again,

have a restfull sleepy night…

We continue with 2 letter words:

id

PRONUNCIATION:
(id) http://wordsmith.org/words/id.mp3

MEANING:
noun: The unconscious, instinctive part of the psyche in Freudian theory.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin id (it), translation of German es (it). Ultimately from the Indo-European root i- (a stem relating to pronouns), which also gave us ilk, item, yet, yonder, iterate, and identity. Earliest documented use: 1924.

USAGE:

“’No one would ever argue that we’re all angels…,’ says Mr. Rollins. ‘It’s difficult to justify to someone raised on the more traditional North American fan experience. It’s loud, it’s crude, but that’s the point. Six days a week I’m a normal guy, but for games your inner id comes out.&
