Jenny

Yes this is about trains.

I have also heard ore hoppers called ore jennies. Also, I was looking at Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad’s website and notice where it was written “Antique Model ‘A’ Ford gas engines power the trolley-like ‘Jenny’ cars over the route.” These do not sound like hopper cars, so there must be another type of rail vehicle called Jenny.

Does anyone know how these got their names? Did some guy(s) like a woman, or women, named Jennifer?

Could it be that the correct names for burros are Jackass and Jenny? Maybe somebody substituted a car of some kind for his Jenny as a beast of burden. My 2 shekels FWIW.

Yeah but I think the guys that liked her just sang about her. You can reach her at 867-5309.

Ore cars were called “Jimmies” not jenneys.

I just Googled ore jennies and got over 850 hits. Ore Jimmies got 550 hits. I’d say it’s a potayto/potahto thing - depends on where you’re from. Add to that one summary that said ore cars were only call “jennies” ‘outside the area…’

I had heard “jennies” well before I came to CNW country, where they were called “jimmies”.

You can bet Mookie’s ears will perk up when she sees this thread!

Mah ears is perkin’!

According to the information I have checked on in the past:

Ore Cars were Jennies - note the ies.

Mules, not burros, were Jack and Jenny or sometimes Jennie (note spellings)

Spinning Jennies

Mookie is a Jenny (note the spelling)

Not one was a Jennifer, Benifer or a Virginia. They have their own problems!

Moo!
