I really don’t have a clue what you are talking about, except of course for your first sentence. Why does everyone think I hate Mr. Jacobson? Is this just one big clique where anyone who “doesn’t quite fit in” will be bombarded by hostility? I don’t get it and I probably never will. I was raised in the USA, served the Flag and was taught that everyone has freedom of speech (1st Amendment) without worrying about attacks from individuals who want to stifle free speech. Y’all are the most hateful group I’ve ever seen, with a couple of exceptions. I don’t care what color you paint it (whatever that means) and I hang with no crowd. I just love trains, preferably older vintage trains.
So, seeing as how I must be stupid or something, can someone explain to me the hate being generated because I don’t know why so many people have their drawers in a wad. If I stepped on someones toes, I will apologize. I get that you are a “railroader” and I obviously am not. Does that mean I am not entitled to speak. Let me say this: To all the “railroaders” on this forum I apologize, and if you only want it open to “real railroaders” then make that plain at the top of the page. Well… let’s see… you start by vilifying Mr. Jacobson, and now claim 1st amendment rights to your opinion.

Now I claim 1st amendment rights of the people that took offense at your opinion. Are they not allowed to come to Mr. Jacobson’s defense? Can they not offer explanations as to what happened?
I do think that if you had offered your comments couched in supplication and entreaty for an understanding of what happened to the Ohio Central Steam Excursion Service, you might have found lots of friends here that would want to explain it, AND commiserate with you over the loss that you (and many others) are experiencing.
Vilifying a person that used their own money (sure, he also took donations to help offset the extreme expense of restoring and operating a Steam Locomotive) and had the time and wherewithal to do what he has done is just not the way to go. His actions have provided lots of joy and memories to many people, and the evidence is that he is working to continue it as time, money and circumstances will allow. I am sorry that you (and “I”) missed the past opportunities to enjoy the service he provided. I hope that someday I (and you) might get a chance to see another steam excursion provided by his historic preservation efforts.
But is he “selfish”??? NAY! He has been more than generous. If he never does another thing, he is still far from such an attribute.
I will offer a bit of advice that I learned in all sorts of counseling… when you offer an “opinion” make sure you state it as “opinion”… include those little short hand notations of “IMHO” for “in my humble opinion” if you want to, or spell it out in some other set of words. (“I think”, “It sure seems like”, etc.)
Should that be a prerequisite? Did some wiener complain about the threads re: the crossing in NV? How about the thread re: hauling bacon? Should these have EVER been candidates for censure? Yet this vilification goes on.

Its been several years since the Ohio Central stopped the Sugarcreek excursions, Mr. Jacobson sold the Ohio Central in 2008, where’s this guy been? Why question it now? I hope he hasn’t been at the Sugarcreek Depot waiting for a train.
