Ten years into my DCC layout, I have finally succumbed and downloaded Decoder Pro to store the CVs on over 50 decoders, some sound and some non-sound.
It is quite a learning process.
I come up with a host of questions and eventually get them answered by consulting the Decoder Pro Manual. But, I have a basic question for which I cannot find the answer. While I am connected between my computer and DCC command station, I can call up a specific decoder and see the entire list of stored CVs. But that can be a pain to run down to the basement to my layout with my laptop to do this.
Can I view (and print) these CV lists off line while sitting in my den? I can view the list of roster entries, but I haven’t been able to figure out if it is possible to view these CV lists. Can it be done? Or must I be connected to the command station via the USB/serial cable?
There’s no print for the CVs that I know of, but you can view them. What you need to do is define a different connection not using your interface device. That’s what those ones called “Loconet Simulator” and “NCE Simulator” are for. Select one of those as your interface (it doesn;t really matter if you match your system, unless you want to work on say dispatcher panels off-line, because the choice of system determines the names of the signals and turnouts, LTxx for a Loconet Turnout, NTxxx for an NCE turnout, etc). Once you have that set, you can open JMRI without being connected to your layout. You can open any roster entry and go throught he pages to review the settings. You can make changes, but obviously they will not be written to the loco - however they will be saved in the roster file and you cna later program the loco from the roster entry. There is also an All CVs tab which lists every CV and the value.
