John Allen's engine house

Does anyone know if there are any published plans of John Allen’s famous two stall engine house. I think it would make a great scratch building project and I have the perfect location for it on my layout. I know FSM produced a kit version of the engine house a long time ago but all FSM kits are limited runs so it is no longer available.

It’s probably available if you are willing to pay the price. Personally, I’m not… I don’t think any of his kits are worth the money…

However, I think this question came up a month or so ago and the answer was RMC 194-something… Check the Index and search John Allen…

Good luck,

Actually if you want one really really bad. You don’t need the FSM Kit.

Back when Revell was making model railroad equipment and accessories, they made a Two Stall Engine House. It was patterned exactly off of John Allen’s Engine house. NO its not a scratch building project But you end up with the same building.

Alot of old Revell Model train items are show up fairly frequently on e-bay. Also the same kit was released by Con-Cor many years back and was carried in the walthers Catalog until Quite recently. So chances are a little judicious digging on e-bay. Hobby Shops and swap meets would turn one up in short order.

I believe the Revell kit was a brick structure where as the John Allen structure was a wood building. I actually had one at one time. It was an OK kit but certainly paled in comparison with the real thing. It was nothing more than a shell without the fine detail of John Allen’s masterpiece. Revell also released this same structure as a bakery by changing the end walls an molding the brick blue.

Okay, so get the Revell kit and some Evergreen Styrene plastic wood siding. Then copy the brick walls with wood ones. The detailing of kits is always what makes or breaks them.
