July Milwaukee Profile - a little underwhelming

I was really hoping that the profile on Milwaukee would really impress, given that its Trains Magazine’s home town. I really didn’t find anything new there. I live 200 miles away from Milwaukee and get there several times a year. Even with my relatively limited knowledge of Milwaukee, most things were old news. I guess I expected more from the hometown team.

You mean the Brewers? Yeah, I would like to see a winning season, but they have gotten lots better than they were at the beginning of the season.

I too was wondering how in-depth the article would be; however, since I railroaded in Milwaukee years ago, so I wasn’t really expecting any surprises–hoping for, but not expecting. And don’t forget, you already have knowledge of the area. Furthermore, Milwaukee is rather big. For the article to go sufficiently deep into the nooks and crannies of the city would have taken much more than one page.

Sure, there was a lot they left out, not only about railroad operations in the area, but also regarding places to drop the family while you railfan. But for the first-time visitor to the area that has a day or perhaps two to explore what was shown in the article, I think it was adequate.

If anyone reading this is planning to visit southeast Wisconsin and would like some more information about locations, feel free to PM me.

Zardoz is right, the page is pretty good for day trippers like myself (only 90 miles away), but I would do my homework if I was going to be there for an extended period. The same holds true for any other area as well.

I also agree with Zardoz. I was just in western Chicago a couple of weekends ago, and just knowing a few sports to start out with is plenty for a visiting fan. If someone wants enough different spots for a week of shooting, they can ask on this Forum, or go on the Yahoo Groups, etc…

I thought the “where to put the family for a few hours” information great, if only it ended with ‘for free’ [:-^]
