Just in case you have'nt heard, the Classic Metal Works 41-46 Chevys are FINALLY here!!!!!

Finally!!! I’ve been waiting for soo long for the Classic Metal Works 1941-46 Chevy Pickups and just ordered a red, green and blue one from Model Train Stuff. They had the best price, plus they dont overcharge for shipping for 3 small HO vehicles. I cant wait to get my hands on them, I have a few upgrades in mind…

Hey, that IS good news. [Y][8D] I’ve been waiting for these little puppies to come in for quite a while myself. I’ll probably wait till they show up at my LHS. On second hand, I just saw the price. Hmmmmm…

Tom

UPDATE: I ordered a red and blue version from M.B. Klein yesterday and they are on their way. Sweet!

SWEET, I’ve got a couple of every colour ordered. I bet they don’t get up here to Canada for another couple months though. [:|]

Yeah, Model Train Stuff sure has great prices. Im planning on doing some small improvements such as adding sun visors, painting the wheels or maybe adding wide whitewalls. I wish they offered the two tone treatment (black fenders seperate body color) in red, blue and green. No sure why they only offer that in yellow and orange?? Anyhow, Im just happy there here and I can do the black fenders myself. Next comes the heavy duty version of the 41-46 Chevys! Im thinking of taking one of those cabs and make it into a 41-46 Chevy school bus.

I picked up three last week. 1 at Credit Valley and two at The Train Cellar. At The Train Cellar, they told me their stock was their second order and they couldn’t get any more! Helps to say " Set one aside, please."

I was told that these are being made in smaller numbers than past offerings, so if you want one, I wouldnt procrastinate. FYI I have no affiliation with Classic Metal Works, just a fan of there products.

I just ordered a few. Lately is seems that CMW are getting harder fo find. Look forward to the larger truck bodies when they arrive as well.

What is next for automobiles?

Great, now I can build an HO model of this boom truck painted up in Pacific Motor Trucking, that I use to own. It is a 2 1/2 ton truck that has a boom that can pick up 14 feet under the hook and up to a ton. All 1941-6 cabs that fit on a 1/2 ton pick up can be used on a larger 2 1/2 ton truck frame, just the finder cut out is made larger for the large size tires.

Are they metal or plastic?

Perhaps they’ll revive the 1956 Dodge Coronet project? If they can get licensing from Chrysler for the 1950 Dodge Meadowbrook, surely they can pull it off for the Dodge Coronet (the announcement was for a sedan, but this image should give the idea)

BTW, I stopped by Willis Hobbies (Mineola, NY) this morning, and they had a decent number of 1941/6 Chevy Pick-ups available. I took a pass, as that model’s styling is kinda meh to me, but they’re out there…

I just picked up two of the 41-46 Chevy pickups. I needed a blue one with black fenders. I got one of the blue ones and one orange with black fenders. The cabs and beds are fastened on with two screws, so after taking both trucks apart I reassembled the blue cab and bed to the black fenders and the orange body to the blue fenders. Problem solved and I now have the a model of the blue with black fenders pickup truck I learned to drive when I was 11yrs old. [:D] The orange and blue truck looks good also!

Chutten, I hope so, I would love to have the coral and black one. Dang, I wanted a blue, red and green one with black fenders and now that I already ordered I find out you can switch fenders. Darn. Well, at least I know they come apart for easy painting. Im going to try using a ultra fine sharpie to blacken in between the grill bars, should help out in that area. Looks like Im not going to get mine before the weekend is over…

Steamage, this would be the best canidate, there comming soon.

You mean the Dodge Coronet? Coral and Black like this? That would look cool, and I’d buy one for my 1:87 Classic Car collection (I gave up trying to justify 1940s & 1950s classic cars on a planned early 21st century layout and just put the oldies in a cabinet - when I hit 75 or so ‘classic’ vehicles, I’ll model a “classic car show” [:P] ). BTW, I don’t know why CMW canceled the Dodge Coronet project in the first place - although actually I wouldn’t mind a 1966 Dodge Coronet Sedan - since that was the car my Dad used to cart me around when I was still in single digits of age [:)]

Hold on with that - I have had some success with a technique from the Jan 2005 Rail Model Journel (remember that mag?) - “Open Grills For Diesels and Automobiles” by V .Roseman (I’ve used it only on one or two model roof air conditioning unit grills - looks good). Like Vic always does, he goes into a lot of depth about art and visual perception, but the summary is - you will use a wash on the grill, and this wash will consist of 1) black paint (of course) 2) A clear ‘vehicle’ for the black paint - usually clear flat or gloss finish and 3) Thinner to help the wash flow into the grill.

Yes, it was the Coronet I was talking about. They cancelled it?!! Darn. That would have added something different than the same old Ford and Chevys. I’ve used the wash idea before, but didnt think of it for this situation for some reason. Im going to take before and after pictures.

CORRECTION!!! NOT the Dodge Coronet but the Dodge Royal like this.

We may both be correct - witness this post from a long time ago on a message board far, far away:

Looking both at Wiki and the legendary book “Cars of the Fabulous '50s”, there seems to be no real difference between the Coronet and the Royal (or even the Custom Royal), except for options and available body style (all lines had 4 door sedans - and all had a ‘Lancer’ 2 door Hardtop). Hmm, Wiki claims turn signal were optional on the base-line Coronet - Optional? By the mid-1950s? What the heck did they put on those tailfins then?

BTW, CMW could have gotten really crazy and offer a ‘La Femme’ - that would have been a keeper!

I’ve finished a few mods to my blue 41-46 Chevy PU will start new thread about it in a couple hrs. Need to upload pics. I still want to change the stock all chrome wheels to something more realistic/original , any ideas??? Would a 41-46 Chevy pu have white center hubcaps if the grill was chrome? I need to do some research.
