Just ordered "Shortline railway guide" and "Hot Spots" how out of date is it?

Short Lines is 1995 and Hot Spots is 2001… Wish Kalmbach would send people update packs on these every year or so

Apparently nobody wants to take on the HUGE task of rewriting and RESEARCHING the Short Line guide. Perhaps if we had someone who could write we could get Kalmbach interested in the research…

I’d certainly be up for a few copies. I have three of the last edition alone…(hint, hint)

And, NO, I am not volunteering to write it either…

Perhaps you could volunteer to proofread it, in exchange for 5 or 10 free copies.

Shouldn’t they wait a couple of more years to give companies like G&W time to swallow up the last of the independants? Is the current round of consolidations almost over?

I would not mind if the 6th edition included Canadian shortlines as well.

I would be willing to go that far, if I got paid for the proofreading.

As to G&W swallowing the independents, at last count there were over 500 short lines in existence of which G&W has less than 50. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting…

Including Canadian short lines could be done, assuming the writers and editors wanted to do so. Isn’t there still a Canadian Railway Guide including all railways in Canada? Seems to me that was at least as good as the Short Line Guide.
