K-Line/Lionel Diagrams

Seeing more and more questions regarding K-Line engines and service, I was wondering if anyone knows if Lionel will have the diagrams for the K-line engines available? I would think that they would at least have the diagrams for the pieces that they are now selling. It would be a big help if they do. I have some porters and Plymouth engines that will eventually need attention.

Thanks,

I wish, the Lionel guys have been very rude when I bring up the whole K-line service thing.

Dennis,I checked the customer service part of the Lionel web site…They have directed all questions and issues reguarding the original K Line products to Brasseur Electric Trains…This is the same firm mentioned in the earlier post by Ogaugeoverlord…Brasseur will do warranty work on the K Line by Lionel, as well as repair older units…I wish Brasseur the best on this venture… and hope it don’t too rough as far as getting the needed parts…Our KLine locos are too nice to be used as a door stop…

There has to be Dealer service and parts manuels around for these units…I would be game for a reproduction (reprint) service and parts manuel…Maybe a job for Kalmbach?? Does it hurt to ask???

Here that Kalmbach, make some money by selling a K-line repair manuel, there would be great depand for one.

I agree about a manual, that would be nice. Of course Kalmbach has also refused to reissue the Modern Train repair manual that they used to publish…a shame. Before anyone goes and spends money on the wrong manual, be aware that Maury Klein had done a postwar manual like the greenberg’s that says K-Line on the cover. I would hate for someone to purchase one of these thinking it was for K-Line engines.

You can find some of the modern Lionel diagrams that were in the old modern era book, on the Lionel website.

There may be some service-center only K-Line repair book/diagrams, but I’ve never seen anything beyond the usually generic instruction sheet that comes with a locomotive.

In '94 or so I called K-Line about getting a diagram for their little Alco FA (things were moving around inside and I wanted to secure them correctly) and I was told that they didn’t have anything like a diagram.

I’m sure they progressed after that, but we may never know.

Would there be any chance of a kalmbach k-line manual, because I’m sure that when the started making their very expensive items they had diagrams.

I would think that Lionel should have the diagrams to at least cover the engines/equipment that they are now selling under the K-Lionel name. These in turn will cover at least a good amount of the most popular K-Line offerings. Of course, they should try to find a way to put the diagrams from the higher priced items even if they are not continuing to make/sell them. Just my thoughts. Many of us are left out in the dark regarding some of these units. My only personal issue right now with a K-Line product is a porter that I have that is jammed.

I heard that Lionel gave hints to hobby stores that they’d fix old K-line, but I just heard from an owner of my LHS that they dropped that idea.

Hello Alex! I guess your best bet would be to call or e-mail Brausser’s Trains in Saginaw,Mi & see if they have any diagrams that they could e-mail you since they are now authorized to do K-Line Repairs. I would imagine that they must have some diagrams in order work on K-Line Trains so that they can cross reference part numbers for repairs. Take Care.
