Anybody know which Kadee couplers (body-mounted) are best for LGB freight cars (in this case, their tank car)?
I am interested in this as well. I have a small number of LGB boxcars and the DRG&W passenger, combine cars. Regards, Dennis.
Hi I would use the Bachmann style the Kandee tend to catch track magnets if you are useing reed switches to trigger sounds installed in a loco tender when they pass over magnets the train uncouples
Try doing a serch on KADEE in this forum You will find more info then you need.

Thank you, twotone, and thank you, Dave…I never noticed that the Forum had a search feature!!
Do you mount the magnets above the rail heads?
On body mounts, the couplers are very solid, and the kadee spec says put the uncoupling pin 1/8" above the rail head.
On truck mounts, it can be problematic, since the coupler tang can deflect down under tension, especially with sprung trucks.
I put a 45 degree or more bevel on the leading and trailing edges of magnets, helps a lot.

You can also remove the un-coulpling pin if don’t plan on doing any and try to use the same size ( scale ) G or #one . This is because with mixed size’s they tend to uncouple on rough track. By the way I have broken 2 Kadee’s in half before removing the un-coupling pin.

Hi Greg I use the LGB magnets for working my reed switches On my locos sound in tender (phoenix)
Thanks, Greg; good points to remember. Right now I have no magnets, and haven’t decided on whether or not to use them. I have pin and link couplers on all my logging cars; the knuckle couplers are for the trains that will belong to the short line RR that brings supplies to my logging operation, and that takes out the finished lumber…so we are talking about only a few cars and minimal switching going on.
I body mount KADEE # 836’s on LGB tank cars. It is some work as you have to cut out a notch for the coupler to sit in but it looks nice.
