Hi all, I have two Kato engines, an SD40 and an SD45, and am having problems removing the pins holding the couplers in place. Anyone have any tips for removing them, and possibly replacing them with easier to remove screws? Thanks in advance.
You can try getting under the pins with a small flat-blade screwdrive and prying them out a little. Or you can grab the ends with pliers and pull with a twisting motion. As for screws, just use what works. your basic 2-56 or similar sized screw should fit fine.
You can carefully use rail nippers…they are sharp enough to get under the lip and then just lever it out.

I use small pliers. Grip the top with some wide jaw pliers and pull while slightly twisting back and forth.
I have 4 of the SD40’s with that pin. I use a pair of needle nose to pull them and to put them back. No problems at all.
